The biggest problem was in my formatting. That leaves me puzzled. Not disagreeing, just puzzled. I was under the impression that Final Draft automatically set up the correct format. Obviously I must have some important points along the way. Any thoughts? Solutions? Hellllppp. Thanks.
Mary, I'd be happy to work with you. You can checkout my services, or site, and reputation. And I'm not very expensive. If it means anything, Stage 32 has brought me on to do 2 Webinars already, so I must know a little sumthin... hehe Email me if you have any questions.
Yeah I bet you've just gotten the wrong elements, or used dialog formatting for the whole thing. I know it can be confusing too and a little complicated the first time.
Most likely, it read like a novel rather than a screenplay. You can have the "where things go" format perfect and have problems with the "how those things are written" part.
Hi all -- anybody have any examples of co-writing collab agreements for a screenplay you could share with me? Thanks.
The main thing I struggle with when I write is making my characters different from each other on the page. In my head I know how the characters sound and speak to each other. Any tips on how to really make my characters traits show through?
I agree with Cherie and Zachariah's comments. I usually write out backgrounds for all my characters along with the psychological, physiological, and sociological aspects. I feel that it helps me out a lot when I'm writing. Every character has a story, even the minor ones. So have fun! :)
Not sure if y'all can see this. Thank you so much for your ideas! I really appreciate it!

Expand commentHi pals, Great comments. I use a little of each with my characters. First, I definite the 3 dimensions profile for each one, and I give him a past, an education level, a family life... Then I spend some time discussing with him about his life and interests, how he sees the other characters and his own role in my story... quite like an interview; and this gradually give him more consistancy and precise traits, physical and language tics inspired by real people similar to him. Then in my first drafts, I use many parentheticals,...

The best thing to do is to find the boundaries of each colaborater and have open dialouge with other creatives. through negotiation and definiing each role. Sometimes other creatives can see something you don't... Example, Whatever is good for the story is more important than egos. BTW, in screenwriting, many writers turn their scripts over to a producer, Director, editor. and the whole film crew. If I can be of help in anyway let me know. Good luck! PS, sometimes it is best not to work with friends unless you have a strong foundation that can take a passionate endevor such as making a film. It isn't easy and there is always something that goes haywire in film production. Have thick skin!
Hi Timothy. Thanks for your post. Being a freelance copy/content writer in the ad business I know all too well about the committee approach to a project. My skin is about as think as the earth's crust. But I've the soul of a poet ;)
Good going Charlie... If you need anything I am willing to put my two sense in.. lol
I'm sure you know the old writer's joke - The camel was an elephant designed by committee.

I've got a friend who is also a screenwriter and has had a couple of films actually produced with some decent name stars. He's read my script and likes it. He also would like to collaborate with me on it to make it better. So of course I'll have a collab agreement. My question is this: I have a specific vision for this film. He probably has a different vision. So before I agree to working with him, how do I deal with reconciling two different visions for the same film?
Hi Annie. Great point. I'm starting to feel that a bit. After not getting a few calls and emails returnedm or if they are with some "running around" excuse I'm wondering about the commitment part. Of course, life does have a habit of often being uncooperative with all. So, we'll see.
I agree with Dan, get paid, get credit, give up your vision if you must. Then write another great script.
And I agree with you. Thanks.

Very cool. Love your digital hard breaths.
Hi All, I recently read «MAKING A GOOD SCRIPT GREAT» by LINDA SEGER. It was brilliant and extremely helpful, only problem is that it was in a foreign language. Wondering if you could help me find an English version. Would really appreciate it. Thanks a million. Hil.
It is interesting reading all the varying responses on this thread. Most people read the title but not the question. Hilary was looking for an english language version of Linda Seger's book.
You need the screenwriter 's Bible written by David Trottier
Zombie thread, lock them.
my deeply condoleances to his family and close friends
Good to meet you.
HI Soyoung. Thanks for the connection. Let's chat a little later I'm up against a deadline for a project (not film - gotta pay the rent anyway) My son lives in LA. He's bitching about the heat. Well come on over to NYC. It's 24 degrees. Cheers.
Hello Charlie, thank you for the request to connect. Have an awesome week.
Many thanks. I will most certainly try and have an awesome week.
No problemo Charlie, we are now connected, cheers, John
