A tour of a ghost town turns into a battle for survival when an Alt-Right group mistake a diverse film crew, scouting locations, for government agents, and decide to take a stand against the encroaching forces of tyranny.
SYNOPSIS:
Part action/thriller, part political satire, "Deepening the Divide" deals with our ever increasingly polarized society. Pam’s a left-wing idealist. A Caucasian woman engaged to an African American filmmaker, Theo, she sees the country finally moving in the right direction, but remains fearful of the rising hate on the right. Concerns which are amplified by Yvonne Moore, a left-wing pundit who preaches the right is an increasingly violent threat. Chad Michael, his mother Roberta, and little brother Scott are angry right-wing ideologues. Furious at a country and system that seems to have left them behind. Grieving the loss of their patriarch and about to lose their family home, they’re frustrated, furious, and desperate to fight back. They get their chance when they learn a film crew (Pam, Theo, his partner Muhammed, their Jewish executive producer Marcie, and her gay assistant Joel) is coming to the desert to scout locations for a documentary. Sure they’re actually government agents come to spy on them, or worse, they and their militia spring into action. They slip poison into Joel’s lunch, and he falls violently ill. Assuring them it’s just a bug, Roberta offers to keep an eye on Joel while Pam and the others explore the ghost towns. Chad Michael and another “scout” follow them, while Roberta, Scott, and a few militia members try to get the truth out of Joel. What they don’t know is, Scott’s secretly gay. Seeing them beat Joel is too much. Scott turns on his mother, and fights off the militia to save Joel. They escape in Scott pick-up, but it breaks down, forcing them to flee on foot. Chad Michael slashes the tires on Marcie’s SUV, stranding them in a remote ghost town. He traps them in the old church, where Pam and the others are forced to make their last stand. Chad Michael blows Muhammed’s head off, and nearly kills Theo, before Pam slits his throat. Scott and Joel seek refuge in an abandoned farmhouse, but the militia finds them, and threatens to execute them for crimes against nature. They think they’re saved when the Sheriff arrives, but he’s one of them. Pam, Marcie, and a wounded Theo arrive in Chad Michael’s van, distracting the men. Scott and Joel overpower them, Pam and Marcie kill the sheriff. Yvonne rallies against the violent, right-wing extremists who, without provocation, attacked a group of innocent tourists. Fisher warns his viewers that this is just another "false flag" attack designed by the liberal elites to falsely paint conservatives as the bad guys. Fisher and Yvonne are summoned to their boss's office, David Frischmann, the NSA Director of Domestic Disinformation. The numbers are in and, once again, Fisher and Yvonne's shows are number one. As they're toasting their success, they get the news a shooting has occurred at a mall. One suspect’s dead, the other’s on the run, and, best of all, they’re Muslims. Rating's gold.
