Meet John Seldom, Philadelphia’s very own Capraesque “every man,” who suddenly finds himself homeless and running for mayor against incumbent Sly Pignolli, a machine politician whose dirty politics may force the City of Brotherly Love’s indigents to lose their mouthpiece.
AWARDS:
2nd Place, 2012 KAYfilms Summer Screenplay Contest
SYNOPSIS:
John Seldom has only recently become "down on his luck." Desperate, and in need of some fast cash to keep his head above water, he robs a Philadelphia bank - with a hand-written note that promises to pay back the loot.
Massive media attention ensues, and John, both well-spoken and big-hearted, is instantly adored by Philadelphia's homeless, who suddenly champion him as an opponent for incumbent Mayor Sly Pignolli, a perpetual enemy of the downtrodden who is running unopposed.
Officer Krist and Detective Biff try to find out the truth behind the mysterious homeless-man-turned-political-candidate - as does local TV reporter Priscilla Angie, who doesn't mean to fall in love with John, yet somehow does just that.
Untruths precede the truth - as is often the case - and John goes from being a hero to a criminal, and then, just before the election results are announced, a hero all over again. Who gets elected mayor? Maybe it doesn't really matter, as long as John Seldom - voice of the common man - finally gets heard.
