THE SPECTATOR
By Daniel Duane

GENRE: Thriller
LOGLINE: A San Diego narcotics detective, aided by a mysterious informant's phone calls, pursues a sadistic mastermind who manipulates others into committing brutal murders—all while also fending off a dangerous cult that targets law enforcement.

SYNOPSIS:

Carol Burke and Graciela Sanchez barely escape execution in Mexico after chasing a lead on a fentanyl shipment. Going after a yacht loaded with candy that isn't laced with the drug is the last straw for Captain Avery, until a series of brutal murders gives the detectives another chance in homicide. While seemingly random and committed by pros dubbed "Messengers", the murders escalate and cause uneasy residents to demand answers. This puts Law enforcement and the mayor on notice when Stephen Cain, whose family was among those who perished, leads a group of families and supporters in taking up arms. Unrest takes over the streets when Cain's supporters clash with Messenger copycats and police. Carol and Graciela are undercover when they're sabotaged, discovering FBI agents and officers not only on the take but posing as Messengers. Things take a turn when carol's ex-wife, Miranda, and son, Julius, having been previously abducted, are gifted back to the detective on the freeway. Carol's life further unravels when her own partner, Graciela, turns on her. In the end, the mastermind behind the messenger murders remains at large, as does Stephen Cain, and Carol walks away from an opportunity to return to narcotics.
