WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR
By Paul Knauer

GENRE: Sports, Comedy
LOGLINE:

A struggling small-town broadcaster, desperate to escape a life working in his father’s septic business and down to his last shot, attempts to lift his career prospects, and a downtrodden town, by calling the winless high school basketball team to a mythical championship.

SYNOPSIS:

WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR centers on a young play-by-play announcer (Edward) at a career crossroads. Increasing pressure to take over the family business clashes with his desire to make it big in radio. Against his father’s wishes, Edward takes one last radio job in an attempt to prove his skill. But, when he realizes the team he’s been hired to cover hasn’t won a game in three years and doesn’t have the skill to provide the highlights he needs to get attention, he begins to make up fake highlights on the air. When a scrub player asks for his own personalized highlight, it starts a cascade of events that lead to Edward first being fired, then, when the town rallies around him, surprisingly hired back to call the team to a fake championship.
