By Mario Scott Waller

GENRE: Sports, Drama
LOGLINE:

Jason Wright traverses the ultra-rich and the seasonal working-class as he chases his dream of returning to the podium as a world-class skier. But his quest is jeopardized as a newcomer to town and the return of a forgotten past bury him in an avalanche of trouble.

SYNOPSIS:

The Pilot:

As JASON WRIGHT chases his dream of becoming a world-class half-pipe skier, his lack of responsibility and attention to his job, his friends, and his girlfriend begin to pile up. Jason has settled into his routine of work, half-pipe practice and sleep – much to the chagrin of his girlfriend MIA MONTEZ. Adding to Mia’s angst is AMBER DAVIS, who sets her sight on Jason as she attempts to fit into the “frozen ass town” she is forced to call home.

Jason’s troubles escalate when ALEX SIMMS’, fresh out of jail brother STEVE shows up unexpectedly, dredging up a decision from Jason’s past to help Alex out of a life-threatening bind.

When Mia is pulled over for a headlight issue Jason has neglected, it puts her and her grandmother’s immigration status at risk. Mia’s frustration and her suspicion of Amber grows, pushing Jason to make a decision on their future.

Jason’s struggles with money grow when he loses his ski resort job, forcing him to take an offer from LANCE, a rich Millennial who is willing to pay handsomely for an out-of-bounds ski experience. Jason is unable to dissuade Lance to abandon his quest when he deems the avalanche danger is too great. Jason barely escapes the avalanche but Lance is not as fortunate.

The anger Alex has toward Jason regarding the incident with his brother, and his knowledge that Jason is the unknown skier who led Lance to his death is superseded when Steve’s drug dealing past comes calling and Alex’s father is found dead.

JASON WRIGHT (21) - After coming to Summit as an Olympic hopeful, Jason is fixed on proving to his father his decision to chase his dream was valid. The lingering face-to-face conversation in the hospital with his late mother after breaking his arm in competition, spurs Jason to continue his pursuit while working as both a ski resort instructor by day and a bar back at night. Fitting in practice and work while tending to his girlfriend’s desire for a more stable path and side-stepping issues with his circle of friends, Jason finds his life burrowing deeper into a financial and emotional rabbit hole.

ALEX SIMMS (20) - As a pushed-to-the-side local, Alex lives in the shadow of the multi-million dollar vacation homes and flush-with-cash tourists that support the town of Summit’s economy. He lives on the fringe, working menial jobs and hocking stolen ski equipment while dodging his abusive father and drug-dealing older brother.

AMBER DAVIS (22) - Exiled to Summit by her parents in an effort to shield her from her big city legal troubles, Amber must attempt to blend in with the locals and learn to survive without daddy’s credit card.

MIA MONTEZ (21) - A DACA immigrant, Mia works as a resort cleaning staffer and runs an independent short-term rental cleaning service to make ends meet for her 4-year-old daughter and undocumented grandmother.

BRENT AZUNA (21) -Tasked with being the local face for the many dealings in and around Summit for his corporate mogul absentee father, Brent flaunts his prestige and his bank account -- especially to appealing vacationers.

THE FIRST SEASON ARC:

With the avalanche incident hovering, Jason maneuvers his life around the unsolved death of Alex’s father and Steve’s drug dealing problem. As the ensemble bands together to help Alex, the trouble they each fight to hide within themselves becomes intertwined. Amanda’s troubles come into focus and are mysteriously linked to Steve’s drug dealing. Brent takes Mia under his wing after she and Jason split, causing a riff in his friendship with Jason and opening the door for Amanda to make her move on Jason. As the conflict in Jason’s circle of friends escalates, Jason finds himself forced to choose between his last chance of achieving his skiing dream and the avalanche looming on the precipice of his friendships.

The series is built around the disparity between the ultra-rich residents, far-ranging vacationers and the seasonal working class who must jump from job to job as the seasons change to make ends meet.
