PLAYING THE VICTIM

PLAYING THE VICTIM
By Joseph Andrew Killeen

GENRE: Thriller, Drama
LOGLINE:

High school drama can seem like life and death and sometimes it actually is. A drama connoisseur blurs the line between stage and reality when she stays in character, continuing her dramatic performance off stage and setting up her co-stars for a deadly final act.

SYNOPSIS:

The drama club is putting on a Greek tragedy play, however the drama behind the scenes ends up being much more tragic and sensational than any play.

Montague High has its cliques like most any other school but its drama group takes it beyond over the top. Mean girl Doutzen and her minions make sure to exert their dominance over the other, more meek mannered girls like Violetta, in order to land the lead roles in the play.

While Doutzen does indeed beat Violetta for the lead female role, offstage Violetta inadvertently wins the heart of Doutzens boyfriend Gustav.

Like the drama-loving sociopath that she is, Doutzen uses the school play to her twisted advantage; putting on not the rehearsed play but her own interpretation of the tragedy. While her co-stars and instructor are shocked and horrified at the murderous plot that unfolds on and back stage, the audience is left perplexed as to what is real and what is pretend. All the while Doutzen soaks in the aftermath of her scheme, using it as an improvisation opportunity to simply hone her acting skills.
