SYNOPSIS:
Present Day. An autonomous container ship appears on the horizon off the California coast. The ship is completely devoid of life but fully functioning. It is controlled entirely by computers.
Our hero sleeps soundly in his bed, well after the sun comes up; he is late for work again. Scrambling he makes his way into work, but not before almost being run over by local marijuana growers.
He gets to a funky start-up office building only to get caught and belittled publicly by the resident super-douche. The day is uneventful except for some idle lunchtime chatter about the fatal flaws in their favorite Sci-Fi robot movies… little do they know they are about to live the perfect execution of a heinous plot put into action by an evil mastermind.
Dinnertime now - our hero catches up with his girl. Damn she's hot - she wants to get married… blah, blah, blah. Let's give it some time. No way, Bucko - now or never. Give me time to think about it? You have all the time in the world… I'm out of here.
Nothing a few brews and some bong hits can't fix. Night night, hero.
Back to the ship now. In the darkness of night we move down row after row of rail cars full of deactivated machinery. Lights in the wheelhouse blink with intent as the ship begins to come alive. A waypoint has been reached. Time to execute the plan of a twisted genius.
Two silent machines whirl off into the night sky and over the ocean towards sleepy Santa Barbara as the sun comes up. The ship turns towards land.
Our hero. Holy shit! Late again! I'm sensing a pattern here. Man, this company starts early. Our hero trucks it to work. Snuck in safe and sound - but where is everyone? They're over by the large windows facing the mountain. Apparently there's been a helicopter crash or something and it has caused a huge wildfire. All the town's emergency responders are lured towards this distraction.
Back to our hero's girl, looking pretty, teaching a class full of preschoolers. But they're too distracted by all the cops cars, firetrucks and general commotion heading up towards the hills. None of them notice the giant cargo ship bearing down on the town's harbor at flank speed.
Calamity as this giant cargo ship slams into the harbor reducing million dollar sailboats to splinters in seconds. The huge ship grinds to a halt up over the beach and destroys half of West Cabrillo Boulevard. Quick work now as automated cranes begin to unload the containers from the bowels of the ship, depositing them onto the street. Curious onlookers begin to gather around this fresh new hell. The ship continues to unload itself in eerie silence.
Hey, did you hear? Something's happening at the beach! I just got here, but heck it's about time for an early lunch, right? Let's head over. A naysayer? "Let's not, I have a bad feeling about this."
Our hero calls his girl - sad trombone - straight to voicemail… I love you baby, I wanna be with you.
The work crew makes it to the beach. There's quite a crowd here now - hard to get close. Apparently a huge container ship crashed here and, oddly enough, the containers fell out and landed perfectly around the ship. Wait - quiet! Something's happening.
Slowly, and with perfect synchronicity, the ends of the containers open. Darkness inside. Then the whirring of machinery coming alive. Then complete and utter terror as row after row of onlooker is silently mowed down.
The Robot War begins… time to run.
