Hey all! I have been wondering what types of software are necessary to learn for working at a production company. I currently work with Pro-Tools & Garageband but I am learning more about Logic. I am applying to jobs in LA and wasn't sure if knowing Logic was necessary- I just don't want to waste co...

This is my input 'from the outside looking in' as I neither work for a production company or live in LA.

1. As I spent 23 years at Exxon, my initial take is you learn and use the tools used at the comp...

Hi Sarah. I hear Logic is big in LA, and Cubase in London, though London seems to be becoming more Logic too now. Pro Tools is more generally used for mixing, mastering and the final mix than composin...

Cubase could be big in the U.K. because it is a product of Steinberg which is a U.K. company. Steinberg also now sells one of the top three notation tools, Dorico which competes against Sibelius (part of Avid which also sells Protools) and Finale.

Hey! Trying to get involved in production so I thought starting off as a PA would be the best way to do so. Am I wrong? Does it seem impossible to me or is just an impossible task?

Hey! I am thinking about making my first film. I am a little nervous and have no idea how to start. I don't want to buy camera equipment just yet since I am new to this. My friend recommended that I use my phone camera altering the footage through a film app. It'll be short (10 min. tops). Any words...

Hey all! I am trying to get more film experience and would love to find a PA job. Wasn't sure if anyone knew of anyone or knew how to get ahead? Let me know- thank you!

Agencies

Hey all! I am trying to find an agent however; I would like to work in different cities (LA or NYC). I am in the midwest and wasn't sure if applying to agents out of state would be a good idea? If I am in Illinois, would applying to an agent in NYC or LA be a good idea? Anyone?

Chris Connell

The short answer is: Typically, you need to be in LA or NY to get an LA/NY agent. They not going to be willing to rep someone not there and able to make next day auditions, which is largely what they get. Hope this helps!
