SYNOPSIS:
CHARLOTTE MÜLLER does not feel recognized and taken seriously by her family. She does everything according to the schedules of her husband and three children. Her husband THOMAS MÜLLER is a busy manager of a bakery company and divides everything in his life according to precise dates. His weekly sex appointment is SOPHIA, the young intern he takes home because he believes his wife is driving son Karl to the basketball center. When Karl pulls his foot and comes home with his mother earlier, Charlotta surprises Thomas in her marriage bed with Sophia. Thomas is so shocked by the change in the schedule that he gets a heart attack. Sophia doesn't know what to do and runs away, distraught. Charlotta calls the rescue and takes Thomas to the hospital. He has to stay in the clinic for a few days but is allowed to go home and has no lasting consequences except that he should be careful for now.
He expects his wife to take special care of him. Charlotta explains him that her life cannot go on and that he has to change something. She meets ISA, a boutique owner in Cologne, and tells her about her misfortune. She advises you to keep your distance and leave Thomas alone. Charlotte goes to Italy with her friend Isa to go on a Mediterranean diet, lose weight and think about her future life.
In Apulia she meets an old woman, LORETTA FARNELLI who owns a little hotel. She has a hotel team that takes care of her in a touching way. When Charlotta doesn't know what to do next and has to go home because her vacation is over and she runs out of money, Loretta offers Charlotta to work at the hotel reception.
The restaurant owner Carlo Massimo falls in love with Isa and follows her back to Germany to open a pizzeria in Cologne. Charlotte initially stays in Santa Maria del Bagno and supports the small hotel team of Loretta, who is now something like her new family. Everyone is charming to her, she is no longer the small fat one, but "la bella bionda" and Charlotta literally blooms.
The hotel is a small boutique hotel located in the old town streets of Santa Maria del Bagno and has only a few rooms. The bookkeeping is a booklet and the telephone is from the 60s of the 20th century. It is very old fashioned, but tasteful and clean. Charlotta agrees to work in the reception and informs her family that she will stay in Italy and will not come back. They no longer need their children, their husband Thomas has another wife, Charlotta wants to reshape her life.
As soon as she tells the children, they all come to Italy one by one to convince them to return home, but are so captivated by the charm of the landscape that they help the mother to build her new life there. When her husband Thomas turns up in southern Italy and sees the small, chaotic hotel where Charlotte works, he thinks he has already won. But he did not count on Charlotte's adaptability, who enjoys her new life and also loves the chaos around her. His attempts to make the hotel more efficient fail due to the different personalities who live and work there and the different mentalities of the German and the southern Italians. He sees it as a failure of his managerial skills and gets a big identity crisis.
Charlotta shows him that he did not fail, but that he himself has to change something in his life if he wants to enjoy life and not just rush through processes that only bring exhaustion at the end of the day. His heart attack was a sign that he couldn't go on. Thomas also decides to go on the Mediterranean diet and stay with Charlotta until he is completely healthy and she returns with him. Charlotta does not think about returning and Thomas is faced with the decision to give up his whole life and move to Charlotta, or to go back to Cologne alone. When her husband Thomas comes to her to reconcile, Charlotta is so integrated into the hotel life that she can no longer imagine a life in Cologne with him.
She still loves her husband but doesn't want to go back to their house in Germany. Thomas is desperate and tries to convince and make her jealous with the Spaniard Conzuela, who lives in the hotel as a guest. When that doesn't work, he interferes with everything in the hotel and knows better how things could go more efficiently there. Charlotta teaches him that she doesn't want to be a cog in his management, but rather enjoy her life and keep her chaos, which is accepted by everyone in the hotel.
She wants to live a new way of life in Italy, with siesta and relaxed working hours and not be an efficient cog in a system that she does not have a say in. Thomas has to accept that his attempt to win her over has failed and either become different or finally separate from her. His long absence creates unwillingness in the food company and he is fired, which Sophia tells him, who goes to southern Italy for this. This means he no longer has to make a decision and look for a new job. Loretta hires him for the hotel as a driver who drives the hotel guests around and shows them the sights of Puglia.
