A coming-of-age story about a teenage boy who tries to find his own identity and lift himself from the shadow of his baseball-playing family, a boy with Asperger's and their heartwarming journey of friendship.
SYNOPSIS:
BARRY CURTIS, 15, can’t make a decision without doubting himself and making matters worse. He ditches his buds who use him to get into his dad’s amusement park and baseball stadium loge, and reluctantly makes friends with DARYL SHARP, 15, a neighbor with Asperger’s who is obsessed with being a baseball announcer. Daryl prefers to be alone but is desperate to make a friend before school starts so his dad won’t enroll him in special classes.
Barry and Daryl meet in Daryl’s closet where Daryl eats cupcakes to soothe his nerves and shares pages of handwritten notes about life and love while Barry tries to please his dad who wants him to be a pitcher like his famous grandfather. Barry can tell any player what their problem is and how to fix it, but he’s a failure on the field and quits. He has no interest in working at the amusement park and is determined to find his own way in life even though he has no clue what he wants to do.
He's off to a rocky start with a series of odd jobs before he discovers his hidden talent for scouting players while selling hot dogs at the stadium. Barry hides his true identity when he goes after a job with the failing team that plays there because his dad’s friend is the owner and his dad wants to buy the team. After Barry gets the job and turns the team around, he wins his father’s praise and respect and helps Daryl score a podcaster job with the team.
