He's an international star with a 15-year-old secret. She's a culinary genius determined to create the perfect dessert. Together, they just might uncover the most elusive flavor of all: love.
SYNOPSIS:
Kelsie McDunn's family owns the largest energy consortium in the British Isles, but her passion is elsewhere. She loves food--more precisely, the creation of wonderfully wild and flavorful frozen desserts. When Isla, a precocious fifteen-year-old in Goth regalia, enters her shop on a quiet street in Old Town, Edinburgh, Kelsie's world spins toward chaos. Isla wants to hire Kelsie to help her father, a man who she fears is "lapsing" too quickly into middle age. With Kelsie's imaginative flair and her good looks, she's sure Kelsie will rekindle a youthful vigor in her father. Kelsie, intrigued by the girl, but not the proposal, Kelsie agrees at length to meet the man, only to find he is none other than Alec Metkle, the international star of the long-running romance-adventure, "Sailor and Commander." Alec offers to pay Kelsie double if she keeps playing along, hoping Kelsie can be a confidant and friend to Isla, who he fears may feel neglected and isolated by his fame. The plan soon backfires, though, as Alec becomes intrigued by Kelsie's poise and passion. As their romance begins to take shape, Isla becomes suddenly despondent, hinting at a secret that haunts her, pulling her toward a memory she thought she had banished long ago. Kelsie and Alec try to balance a growing romance with increasing concern for Isla's deepening angst. At length, Kelsie must face the full force of Isla's pain. Determined not to lose the girl, she relies on what she knows; good recipes are about the right ingredients, and the strength of an individual ingredient can fire the mystical passion of flavor. Weaving, mixing, testing, and enduring, she knows this is not just another winning ice cream flavor she's working on. She is seeking a perfect blend of passion and patience that can forge that most elusive flavor of all: love...
