SYNOPSIS:

Part thriller, part apocalyptic horror, ‘Level 1’ is a medley of surreal American Gothic in the vein of Twin Peaks. It contains lots of exciting genre elements and satisfying tonal shifts, veering from thriller to comedy to psychological terror which will connect with a broad audience. The script is about a woman named Kathy who returns to her hometown with her young son Max following the death of her mother. Tired of being on the road, she decides to stay put but when old flame, Jonas, the local sheriff forces her hand by making her search for the child they put up for adoption many years earlier, Kathy is shocked to discover the child has gone missing and has never been found by the authorities. As they investigate the girl’s whereabouts, the duo uncover a link to the mysterious disappearance of a group of people around the 1999 Doomsday prophecy and soon find themselves embroiled in a series of murders with all the hallmarks of a suicide cult. Jonas and Kathy begin to distrust one another when they discover disturbing truths in each other’s past and a shadowy radio program broadcast by a man called ‘The Marshall’ urging their friends and neighbors to prepare for the next Rapture – only a few days away. Will Jonas uncover who is behind this new movement, guiding people to their deaths? And is it too late for Kathy to find her daughter?
