By Nolan Collins

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE:

CHARCOAL is a dark, character driven drama that follows Jeremy Franklin as he struggles with Bi-Polar Disorder, mild schizophrenia, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, and toxic relationships while trying to become the best artist, father, and husband he can be.

SYNOPSIS:

CHARCOAL introduces Jeremy in middle school, then spends a good bit of time in his high school years where he first discovers his passion for charcoal art and gets his heart broken the first time. Then he lands in a psychiatric ward for a year because of an assault charge. While there, he discovers that drawing is his medication. When he gets out, his brother helps him get a showcase at an art exhibit. He sells out at the showcase and we fast-forward to 5 years later when he is married with a daughter and his art is getting pretty popular; but he is also addicted to alcohol and prescription pills. He hasn’t been drawing; he’s been self-medicating. After his mother dies, he decides he needs to clean his act up and be a better father. He starts drawing all the time and growing distant from his wife who ends up cheating on him. After overdosing on pills, he draws a brutally dark and violent piece. He gets dropped from his deal with his agent and loses custody of his daughter. In the end, though, Jeremy’s ex-wife gets picked up for drunk driving. Jeremy gets custody back and starts his own small art studio. He is finally consistently happy because he has his two prescriptions... music and his daughter.
