Do I need to worry about copyrighting my work?

When I finish my screenplay.. is there any legal protection I should be considering or is my work safe from someone stealing my idea? I was told a few years back to set myself up with a DBA and some other sources that would protect anything I write. Is this necessary, or is it something I need not worry about?

Regina Wills

Nightmare: So someone may like my concept, change the circumstances; use it with different characters and plots and they do well while I struggle. Its bs. Copyright don't cover that (though you still...

For what it's worth, I'm teaching a S32 Next Level Class right now. So far, a little less than 15 class participants have turned in their 1st "homework assignments," which includes a logline. Out of a...

How did you prepare for your first screenplays?

I am still in what I would consider beginning stages of two main idea's one is a feature and the other a pilot. I have done some reading, and also invested in an online course through the writers program with ucla extension. I felt like it was helpful, and I would be willing to take more courses. Bu...

I could give you so many good answers, but too much is too much. A good aide is to buy the program called "Contour," which will teach you the basics of what makes stories work, and fill in your story...

I totally agree on reading Stephen King's book on writing. It's a classic. I tend to spend way more time reading books on writing than I ought to. A good friend who is a skilled writer told me, "Pick...

I assume you have came across my profile, reviewed my page and are impressed by MY work enough to ask for my opinion? So if I do ask for you to do the same in return and you ask me f...

Anyone interested in getting their script read?

I am thinking of starting a site/group where you can get your script read and notes supplied for free as long as you are willing to do the same for others. Am I wasting my time or is it worth my effort to get it started? What is everyone's opinion? Thanks in advance.

Victor Titimas

There are such communities such as Talentville or Triggerstreet where you get free screenplay feed-back, if you, in turn, review someone else's script...I'm just saying this so you could think differe...

Thanks Victor. I couldn't find this type of site. If you search coverage in Google all you get is paid consultants. Nearly all state that they are readers for studios or producers (but can't say who)....

on point.. I realized this last year. I need to make my own work and let that speak for itself. I incorporated networking with other people as passionate as me to grow as a filmmaker and open doors to more opportunity. Yes I am new to the site but i'm putting more effort into engaging on here becaus...

Looking for someone to collaborate with me on a possible webseries of my Annabelle Parody

I am looking for someone to collab with on this project. I released a Halloween parody of the movie, Annabelle. I won a bunch of new fans because of it and they are dying for a webseries. Anybody in Houston is my preference but I am very open to work with anybody that is willing to commit to it. Let me know what ya think, thanks!

Deadline- The Series E6 Preview- The Hitman Warm-up Routine.mp4

Clip from a webseries I filmed earlier this year. Unfortunately the director decided to cancel the series for personal reasons. Lesson learned, I will only work with professionals who are focused and determined like me. This series could have been a success if his heart was really into finishing it

I got a call from an Agency in Philidelphia asking to meet me, WHEN I LIVE IN HOUSTON, TX

Why would a casting director refer me to an agency in the Philly/New York Market? I live in Texas so this doesn't seem beneficial to anybody even if it's a scam. I asked them how they found me and the scout told me, "A casting director gave us your info and we wanted to meet you once we seen your work" What do you guys think? Redonkulous, right?

Wallace Carranza

The last agent I had was actually in NC. Janine Jannicelli, she was awesome and covered Texas, Cali and Most of the East Coast.

Jacqueline Delibes

Sounds like you did the right thing! Weird situation.
