Nicely said Michael, you captured the feeling of frustration and success that anyone who make films feels. I will say that I have had the opportunity to make short films which I have financed myself and some that have been financed by others. I've done projects where everyone has been paid and I thi...

Your last line of your article says it all, when all is said and done, it really is all up to you (and the voice you chose to listen to). Good luck on your next endeavor.

Shirley, thank you for your kind words. I hope it helped!

Michael Bekemeyer

Mark, I agree. Paying your dues is very important. I did and have continued to every step along the way. The digital revolution we got back in the mid-late 90s really put a lot of power in our hands a...

Frustrated

Am I the only screenplay writer who feels she is heading towards a dead end at a very slow speed? I have been writing for 6 years now and feel I am going nowhere, yet I know my writing has improved a great deal since I started. Is this just frustration setting in or maybe time to let it go? Does anyone else feel this way?

Debbie Croysdale

Well said @Doug n Bill. @Lisa Frustration is a feeling we all get from time to time, whether writing one year or twenty years. Let it sweep over you, but not engulf you, changing the mindset to that o...

I can relate, try having an online platform "scripped.com" accidentally dump all your work you worked on for three+ years and then politely apologies and blame it on them selling out to the next compa...

Rejection and Disappointment

I'm not sure if is the place to post this, it's not a success story, so please forgive me. When I read all these success stories two things cross my mind. It can happen for me and why didn't my script get requested. We've selected a profession where rejection and disappointment are considered the no...

Screenwriting college degrees. A good or bad idea?

Is it worth using your college fund on? What are the advantages/disadvantages? While I agree that the craft, to an extent, can be learned, does it give you the tools to make a career? What about raw talent vs education? Let's discuss.

Krystol Diggs

The biggest thing I took away was knowing how to write not just films but Tv, animation, games. I knew none of that before going to the school. So now if someone wants to work with me in one of those...

You don't need to go to college to become a writer. I'm a big believer in the million word theory. If you write consistently, after you hit your millionth word, you're bound to be pretty decent. But,...

Dang, missed it. I won't harass you with mine since you're already knee-deep. My experiences as a reader, I know how time consuming it is to actually read each one rather than read 10-30 pages and pass.

Phil, missed the offer but love you for extending the hand to so many.

Proofread your crap!

I just got done reading a script on talentville. The spelling, grammar and syntax were atrocious. The formatting was horrific. People, I can't stress this enough, if you can't take the time to proofread your work and follow the guideline standards of formatting, no one -- and I mean NO ONE -- will r...

Dan - that's the kind of thinking that has hundreds of novice writers thinking they can write. When the real secret is that your "crap" needs to be BETTER than the "crap" Hollywood produces.

David Liberman

Oh, Sweet Jesus! You guys are getting waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too crazy over the word "Crap." Get over it, folks. I was simply venting. Relax, for Christ's sake.
