A lone survivor trapped in a fallout shelter falls in love with a man she meets over the radio and soon realizes he is not the person he claims to be.

BETH “ELSY” GREENE, a nerdy and sweet natured middle school teacher in her mid 30’s has been alone and trapped in a fallout shelter for months. Too afraid to venture out into the ashen covered wastelands that used to be her home, she instead maintains her sanity by keeping to a strict regimen. She works out, fixes equipment, and writes in her journal. Up until now, this routine has helped her stave off the loneliness. Lately, however, she has felt the draw to end her tortured existence.

She has decided to try and make contact with someone, anyone, over her CB radio. After getting the same old static from the radio, she decides it’s time. That is, until she hears the voice of Charlie, the gruff yet sensitive man from the radio. Shocked, she quickly answers his desperate pleas to make contact. But can she trust him?

She learns that he shares her loneliness. He too has been searching for someone. They form a bond which causes her distress as she develops feelings for him. Is this love? Or is she just desperate? In the meantime a threat looms over both of them. The situation becomes grim when her shelter is invaded by a Waste-Lander and she subsequently learns that Charlie may not be the man she thought he was.
