PR0TOCO1 (PILOT)

PR0TOCO1 (PILOT)
By Geoff Hall

GENRE: Action, Thriller
LOGLINE:

With the political disintegration of Europe, the only thing holding it together is the International Intelligence Community, otherwise known as Pr0toco1. They work to maintain security on a contract-by-contract basis, dealing with threats from rogue nations and clandestine groups, which test their commitment to one another as the political will to prevent the decay wanes across Europe.

SYNOPSIS:

Continental Europe - a place where political allegiances are failing and the Union disintegrating; the only thing holding it together is the International Intelligence Community, otherwise known as Pr0toco1.

In the UK, the Pr0toco1 Team is run by Henry Hall. He has vast experience of working in crisis areas, stemming from his time with Military Intelligence and UN Peace Keeping Forces in the Bosnian/Balkan conflict. He works with Harriet his wife, field officer Natalie Zamine and Sophie Strangways - a computer systems specialist who runs 'interference ' for the field ops.

(The team members are based on four Jungian Archetypes: The Child, The Wise Mother, The Heroine and The Trickster).

With this backdrop of European decay, the various international Pr0toco1 Teams work together in virtual relationships and not formally through national 'entente cordiales'.

"My enemy's enemy, is my friend." Henry Hall doesn't believe this old saying, but until proven otherwise, they're still his enemy. With increased pressure on European population because of the Middle East war zones, part of the Pr0toco1 remit is to work against the radicalisation of young people through humanitarian, not military action. America has chided the UK for not being in control of its own immigration and the fallout from this, along with the leaking of British Intel on social media, leads to an end of the Special Relationship and the closing of USAF bases in the UK.

As the crisis heightens, the Pr0toco1 Teams across the Continent are confronted not only with militia groups, but also the rise of pseudo-religious/political cults offering an answer to the European maelstrom.

The VISUAL STYLE is based on the cinematography of spy thrillers such as Harry Palmer in 'The Ipcress File' (1965) and 'Funeral in Berlin' (1966), 'The Manchurian Candidate' (1962), 'Tinker Tailor, Soldier, Spy' (2011) and 'Bridge of Spies' (2015). In a sentence: Slow Intel gathering, followed by an action crescendo.

Hi Geoff, not clear who your heros are on this one? Why are the special task force so determined to maintain the status quo? Obviously there are valid reasons for the disintegration if the UK wants out of the EU in the first instance. Is it the will of the intelligence task force vs the will of the British people?? I don't know is that a good dynamic to work your story out from...

Geoff Hall

Hi SJ, I'm not sure why I've just seen this. I was looking the other week and didn't see any comments! Ah well, such is technology.

The heroes are the Pr0toco1 Teams who are responsible for nullifying terror threats, or those who seek to change society through violence. The Teams are a buffer so that change can be achieved through peaceful means. So, they aren't seeking to maintain the status quo, but to stop the agents of violence.

It's also not just about Britain wanting out, but the pressure on other nations, for instance, because of the political turmoil in the Middle East and the mass emigration from various war zones. Whether in our out of the Union, there's a palpable threat to European security.

Disintegration is also occurring through economic failures; the Greek economy, the +30% unemployment in Spain etc. There are those who seek to capitalise on this situation to bring about socio-political change, the Pr0toco1 Teams are there to stop that violent intent.

Again, apologies for just seeing this.

Best, Geoff

Ah I get you. Would love to know more, sounds really interesting. The Irish people also wanted less involvement and are in a similar understanding with Greece. Violence is never the way to achieve anything, agreed. It is complex situation, but would love to hear more of your opinions on this subject. Cheers, S.J.
