LOGLINE:

In a future America where immigrants and refugees are hunted down by a fascist government, a young woman must use her newfound teleportation powers to rescue them while she struggles with her anxiety.

SYNOPSIS:

A couple of years from now, the United States government allows vigilante groups called The Knights of America to hunt down illegal immigrants. Rosario wakes up in the middle of the street and she’s hassled by Kenneth, one of these vigilantes before she's rescued by her sister JESSICA.

Rosario arrives late for school and to her counseling session. She talks to her girlfriend ABBY, who lives on Juárez, on the other side of the border. Abby has had her visa petition turned down again. They promise each other that they will figure out a way they can meet again some time. That night, Rosario wakes up on the roof of her house, not sure of what happened. She asks Jessica to set up a camera and see if she notices anything funny. She sees herself disappear. They are completely weirded out by this, unsure of what to do next. That night she disappears again and realizes that she can control her powers to teleport.

Jessica sees this and tries to get her to try things for fun. She disappears and goes to get some groceries and things, shoplifting. Rosario meets up with Abby and teleports with her back and forth from Juárez to El Paso. Abby convinces her that she can use her powers for good, possibly rescuing the immigrants from the Knights of America. During a raid where they are taking some young immigrant children, Rosario teleports to rescue them, completely bewildering the Knights of America. She asks one of them to keep the secret and soon she goes out of her way to rescue different people. However, on one of those occasions, she’s caught and she’s unsure of what to do. She gets nervous and a child she’s trying to rescue gets shot. Rosario disappears, confirming to the Knights of America that she’s real.

Rosario argues with Jessica that she’s unsure if she can keep doing this. But she decides to give it another try. The government researches Rosario and they uncover her real identity through the immigrant database and decide to hunt her down. They want to go to her house but decide to surprise her instead by setting a a trap for her so they can catch her. Rosario receives the news of a young man caught inside a house. She goes to take a look and once there, rescues him but gets caught.

Rosario ends up put in a highly stressful environment so she can’t teleport. She has to see where she’s going so she’s blindfolded. They do everything in their power to weaken her: Draw blood, starve her. They could keep her there forever and study her, but they decide that she can be useful to them and ask her if she’d like to traffic people. She doesn’t but they say that if she doesn’t agree, they’ll kill her sister. She accepts and ends up going on a routine of attacking people, going from becoming a savior to something of a horror figure.

Abby and Jessica realize this and set out to rescue her by pretending to be illegal immigrants trying to cross the border. Rosario is sent to take them in, and all three end up back at the Knights of America facility. Kenneth kills Jessica, igniting Rosario's rage. She manages to focus and overpower her stress, making her take down Kenneth and the Knights. Rosario frees the immigrants she caught and goes to Juárez with Abby, now both of them fugitives.
