THE DAM

THE DAM
By Solomon Sloan

GENRE: Crime, Drama
LOGLINE:

Three travelers come up on spoils of a bank heist and decide to spend it all in Amsterdam while the true criminals are on their spending trail.

SYNOPSIS:

Amsterdam, or the Dam as it's known, is THE destination primed for wayward fantasies and seductive thrills. Like Brecht’s fictional city Mahagonny, Amsterdam is a city of pleasure and excess. The story opens up in the aftermath of a grand heist at the Bank of Hamburg, while at the same time Isaac, lovesick and lonesome for his starlet ex, waits for a bus to Amsterdam with his friends, Moy and DeeDee. As Isaac mopes in solitude, Moy and DeeDee are at a bar gushing about the wonders of the Dam with an anxious drunk before he pours off his barstool. Being the good guys they are, Moy and DeeDee help the drunk up to his hotel room where they uncover the money plundered from the heist. Inspired, DeeDee preaches the importance of fulfilling everyone’s desires by spending the money at the Dam’s King’s Day festival. Unable to convince his friends otherwise, Isaac follows his friends with their ill-gotten gains to Amsterdam where he comes to believe he can use his share to woo back his ex’s hand with extravagance. Good intentions aside, the group is overcome by sex, drugs and all-around debauchery. Isaac finds his romantic intentions thrown off-course by a red-light district harlot he is allured by as his companions give way to the Dam’s festive hysteria. Consumed in this ‘Disneyland for indulgences’, they become too overwhelmed to realize that the true crooks are close on their tail.
