SYNOPSIS:

Based on shockingly true events, The Road to Rosarito begins as, Sal, a freshly retired cartel associate receives a threatening letter from a mysterious cartel boss demanding 50,000.00 dollars in three days or Sal’s girlfriend, mother, and everyone he loves will be brutally murdered. Sal scrambles for a plan and comes up with the idea to raise the money by selling cocaine with his best friend and current cartel member, Eben, while pretending to be on a couple’s trip headed from Los Angeles to Rosarito beach in Mexico in celebration of his girlfriend’s recent acceptance into Princeton Law School.

Sal and Eben do their best to keep their intentions a secret, but knowing they will need help, they decide to include Eben’s girlfriend Jennifer in on the threat and the plan. After a negotiation gone wrong, Sal and Eben rob a cocaine dealer in order to fund their cocaine selling dreams and to end this nightmare. With cocaine in tow as well as both girlfriends, our heroes, Sal and Eben, get on the road from Los Angeles to San Diego, but now have the cartel babysitting and monitoring their every moves as well as a slighted cocaine drug lord that’s connected all over Southern California who is now on their tail for drugs stolen from one of his underlings. The couple arrives at a posh Airbnb and Sal devises an excuse to leave Suzie and Jen at home while he and Eben hit the bar scene. They sell to locals in Mission Beach San Diego and one of their known contacts at a beach side bar buys a decent amount off of them. This tips off the slighted cocaine dealer and puts them hotter on their trail. Sal and Eben leave the bar with two college sorority girls in hopes to sell more cocaine at a party that they have been invited to. The duo hits the party and sells cocaine to a variety of college partiers while narrowly escaping the slighted cocaine dealer. Sal, however, doesn’t escape the night without losing the tip of his pinky as a gesture by the cartel who is supervising this mission and ready to kill if he doesn’t reach his goal.

On their final night in San Diego, Jen and Eben go to a strip club while Sal stays at home to keep his girlfriend happy and to ease her suspicion after his finger accident and all of his strange behavior. Jen and Eben make a successful sale at the strip club to an eccentric strip club owner, but not after the slighted cocaine dealer chasing his cocaine all the way from Los Angeles, shows up and gets into a rumble with strip club patrons and security trying to get to Eben. Luckily, Jen and Eben take their cash and escape as security guards and the cartel watch dogs subdue the cocaine dealer. Sal and Eben reach the end of their road and successfully drop off the money, lies are revealed that include three of the four travelers being involved in a brief sexual tryst that's been hidden for a couple of years as well as the murder committed by Sal that started the chain of events--although, the circumstances suggest self-defense and that Sal did what he did to secure money for his cancer stricken mother’s treatment. None of this matters, of course, to the mysterious cartel boss that set them on this path, and after he promises to spare their lives, his hitmen catch up with the four travelers just short of Rosarito on a rural road where Sal and Eben are killed and the girls narrowly escape. The aftermath is a deadly example of the extreme violence and far-reaching shadow of carnage that the cartel casts over Mexico and the United States with the collateral damage reaching more innocent than the wicked. The most innocent victim is Sal's stage-4 cancer-stricken mom, who takes her own life after hearing of Sal's death on the news.
