SYNOPSIS:

An American astrophysicist arrives with her family into a xenophobic Calvinist bible belt whose residents are infuriated by the perception that the instrument she is helping to build intends to prove Genesis wrong.

Her half-Indian dark skinned, Oxford-raised, son becomes the lightening rod for the town's anger.

But a yet more sinister force with hidden objectives is deliberately stoking the tensions.

*Faction... a fictional story BASED ON FACT: The US$2,5-BILLION "Square Kilometer Array" (SKA) radio telescope begins construction in 2020, split 80% in Southern Africa and 20% in Australia, it is biggest scientific infrastructure and investment in the history of science. Ground zero, its epicenter is Carnarvon, a dusty Northern Cape desert town that history has forgotten in an apartheid past. The sudden real-life introduction of foreign scientists into a dogmatically conservative religous outpost simply begs for conflict and drama. To add to the issue, while the eyes of science are looking at the heavens and the local population is glaring at the scientists, the petrochemical industry is looking at the earth below the region, burgeoning as it is with gas to be fracked...
