By Liam McCann

GENRE: Action, Thriller, Crime, Drama
LOGLINE:

When ex-con Jack is forced to rob a bank to pay off an old debt, he discovers something unexpected in the vault. Now he has the police on his tail and the mob after his family.

SYNOPSIS:

It’s the early 1980s on the west coast of America. Jack is a washed-up ex-con who leaves rehab to find that his daughter has brought forward her wedding because she’s pregnant, and that his son has a gambling debt with the mob. His ex-partner-in-crime, Sam, tries to convince Jack that he can help his family by hitting another bank, but Jack is a changed man: he’s clean and straight. He refuses.

When Sam is arrested after an opportunist robbery at a grocery store, Jack learns he was also in financial difficulty. And now the mob have Jack and his family in their sights. Backed into a corner, Jack is forced to hit the bank.

When the team break into the vault, Jack discovers a haul of diamonds. He suddenly realizes he’s been set up as the heist was never about the money. Jack escapes with the loot but the mob dispatches a psychopath called Butch to hunt him down. Butch pursues the diamonds relentlessly, eliminating anyone who comes into contact with them.

As the police close in on the gang, Jack lures Butch to a train station in the hope that they will arrest him with the diamonds, but Butch is too smart to walk into the trap and kidnaps Jack’s girlfriend, Sal. When Jack discovers that the mob have also captured his son, his world spirals out of control. He manages to rescue his son, but he’s captured by Butch when he tries to free Sal.

Jack eventually escapes from the trunk of Butch’s car and serves justice on his nemesis. He then returns the money to the bank and uses the reward to clear his son’s gambling debt. As he’s also managed to procure two of the diamonds from the heist, they find their way into the ring at his daughter’s wedding.

Liam, I just read this and I love it. Its got snappy, clever dialog. Its very producible. Your writing is taut, lean and engaging. Your plot weavings remind me of some of the great film noirs.
