A husband, desperate to save his trophy wife after he drops her ransom off the wrong pier, begs his mob boss ex-wife for help. Big mistake.
SYNOPSIS:
Pier Pressure is a situational comedy where a twenty-something trophy wife is kidnapped by a car thief who demands a $50K ransom from a 50-something husband who panics after he drops the money off the wrong pier and calls his mob boss ex-wife, who has a history of screwing him over every way possible, to help save his wife.
The ex-wife has him sign a “marker” that conveys the title of his multi-million dollar house to the ex-wife in exchange for her fronting him a second $50K and arranging delivery of the ransom.
The second ransom attempt, seen by the kidnapper, is ruined when the mobsters grab a busboy behind a restaurant by mistake so the kidnapper sends a SFX hand to the husband who panics.
The trophy wife escapes the kidnapper’s lair, but is hit by a car as she weaves into traffic and taken to a local hospital a few miles from her home. The ex-wife learns of this but keeps it from the husband.
The kidnapper calls the ex-wife using the trophy wife’s phone. He thinks she is the trophy wife’s mother. The ex-wife arranges for a third attempt at a state beach just late that afternoon but two surfers trip over the money and the gang grabs them, beats them up and stuffs them into a van.
The kidnapper saw this as well and calls the ex-wife to threaten her, but she explains it was the husband’s men and they have been tracking the wife’s phone so the kidnapper throws it into the surf and disappears into the fading darkness.
The husband is finally reunited with the trophy wife in the hospital and he takes her home to a house now stripped of all possessions and listed as for sale. The wife calls her uncle, a judge, to stop the sale, a decorator to redecorate the house, and a locksmith to change the locks then demands her husband take her to a five-star hotel, even though he is protesting they don’t have any money.
Two days latter, the ex-wife is in Panama enjoying a vacation, thinking everything is perfect, when she gets a call informing her that her gang has just been busted by the FBI; she panics and flees to a country with no extradition treaty with the US.
In the meantime, the wife takes the husband to her bank where she shows him patents and copyrights on video games and cell phone apps she has written while he is golfing at the country club. There she also tells him they are worth $18mm dollars and he is going to be a father. And all he is worried about is if he has to change diapers.
