After a long 18 festival tour, a DVD/VOD/TV and limited theatrical run in Sweden and VOD in the UK (via thehorrorshow.tv ) I've finally decided to take MARIANNE Worldwide. You can see it right now at the official website, http://mariannemovie.com It's gotten some great reviews at Ain't It Cool News, Twitchfilm, Badass Digest, FEARnet and a lot of other sites and was nominated for a Méliès D'argent and a few other prizes. Does anyone here at Stage32 have personal experience of successfully marketing an independent feature film they're selling via self distribution? I'm interested in hearing from people who have done this, what kind of money it takes and what some of the pitfalls might be. I'm thinking facebook and google ads, that sort of thing.

Hi, I'm a Swedish independent filmmaker, as in screenwriter / director / producer. I made a feature a few years ago called MARIANNE, an "elevated genre" horror film, that toured the festival circuit in 2011 - 2012. It had a limited theatrical run in Sweden in 2011, and was then released on DVD and shown on national Swedish television in 2012. It still hasn't sold anywhere outside of Sweden though, despite 18 festival screenings, and right now I'm considdering self distribution. Possibly Amazon's CreateSpace and after that maybe Vimeo on Demand. This means I'll have to get going with an online marketing push that I really don't have any money for, so looking into ways of doing that while I'm writing my next screenplay (a time travel thriller). I'm interested in hearing from anyone who's had any personal experience in self distributing and marketing an independent feature film.
