When a woolly mammoth dig on a small Scottish island with a violent past is interrupted by crazed snipers, a determined female paleontologist must find a way to stop them before her entire team is killed.
SYNOPSIS:
Bad blood between the MacDonalds and MacLeods existed for four centuries on the Isle of Eigg, but that wouldn’t keep the determined paleontologist, Alexandra (ALEX) MacLeod (25), and her dog (Bel) from the woolly mammoth dig site over a chilling Christmas break. Finding her fossil has a surgically removed finger bone angers the professor even before she is joined by her team of fossil hunters, including: elderly mentor, Professor Perry HENDRIX (75); half-black and gay research assistant MARTIE Smith (26); two first-year college students: TREVOR Ross (19, upper-class and secretive) and comical SUNNY Ming (19, half-Asian). The next day, the island's game warden HERB (65), is found shot in the back, and missing his trigger finger. In addition, the team's food is stolen, and all their mobile phones cease working.
Local constable from Mallaig, LINUS Raven (35), arrives to investigate and to see his old flame, Alex. They realize that sophisticated long-range snipers are stalking them like prey. Only Alex's dog, Bel, can sense them. Trevor is shot in the back just thirty metres from the cabin, and his trigger finger is removed in the night. Alex deduces that metal attracts the killers, only after Martie's death reveals her titanium knee. Two interloping drug dealers (PAPA and JUNIOR), associates of Trevor, bring rifles that are easily detected by the killers. One by one, people are shot, with their trigger fingers detached. The killers always return to remove the bodies. Alex suspects her team is targeted because she is a MacLeod. The killers must be MacDonalds.
Terrorized, starving, and cold, Alex is determined to fight back, with the help of three sticks of dynamite taken to the island by Hendrix, who is convinced that once the mammoth site (evidence of fossil poachers) is destroyed, the killers will leave them alone. Hendrix blows up the dig site, and is genuinely surprised the killers shoot him. The killers try different "baits" to lure the four remaining prey from two cabins. Alex strikes back with dynamite, and one killer explodes, but rifle fire sends the survivors into hiding.
Alex now suspects the psychopath snipers are targeting only those who have trophy-hunted in the past. And on day three, the lone survivors (Alex, Linus, Sunny, Junior, and Bel) break for the dock. Junior and Linus, previous trophy-hunters, are shot on the way to the dock, but Linus manages to spear the last killer as Alex, Sunny, and Bel board the ferry and race away. Onboard, Alex determines that Sunny is the mastermind, and that she’s a descendent of the sole female MacDonald survivor from Massacre Cave four-hundred years before. Alex MacLeod and Bel see that Sunny meets her appropriate end with the last stick of dynamite.
