Films often need songs as source music (background bar music, passing cars, etc). Is there anyone here that also writes songs in addition to scoring, or who solely writes songs and not score?

Composers of Stage32, I was just wondering what kind of music you write when you are not writing film scores. I usually write (mostly) atonal chamber or orchestral works, or things with alternative melodic/harmonic systems.

I don´t know if many of you know this but, originally, Alex North (15 Oscar nominations) was the composer chosen by Stanley Kubrick to score one of his most iconic films: 2001: A Space Odyssey. He was discarded though (he didn´t know about until the very release of the movie), mainly because the director could not get over the temp tracks he was using: Johann Strauss II's best-known waltz, The Blue Danube and Richard Strauss tone poem Also sprach Zarathustra.

Listening to the "recreation" done by Michael Mclennan in Vimeo, is clear why. The movie lose completely its poetic and majestic tone. What do you think?

For the past two months I've been trying to get going in Stage32. It seems like it's worth the trouble, but I had all kinds of trouble. For instance, It took about a dozen tries to get a picture that would fit into that tiny circle they give you without cutting off important parts of my anatomy. Now, I'm trying to figure out how to navigate through the site. The help is useful, but often outdated. Okay, I'm done complaining. Hello fellow 32-ers. I write, pitch, and produce screenplays for features and shorts.

Just found out today that my feature has 100% funding. It's a great day. To be honest, I really didn't think it would happen but it did lol!

I'm filming a short proof of concept in February. Once it's finished, should I post it to YouTube or save it for showing to investors?

Thought I'd share a bit of good news. My script 'The Third Bomb' has been optioned by BAFTA-winning producer Sias Wilson whom I met while networking on Stage 32. Sias is known for Flying Monsters 3D with David Attenborough (documentary), Hannibal (TV movie), The Golden Bowl (film), Space Race (TV mini-series) and many others. Sias’s experience as a producer, director and writer working with other BAFTA and Emmy-winners leaves him well placed to get this WWII action/ adventure script packaged and financed.
