Breakthrough!

No, I haven't sold or optioned one of my scripts. However, after 7 years of learning my craft I've finally got somewhere. So if your comfortable and sitting by your fire with a cup of coffee or tea or whatever beverage you indulge in, I'll begin... Just over a month ago I pitched a couple of project...

Yes, really inspiring. Thank you, Baljinder!

Philip Onions

Well done Baljinder, sounds like you've put in a lot of work over the years! How long have you been working on this one script? I hope it works out for you!

Baljinder Singh Gill

Thanks Philip. The particular script in question took me about 6 months which included various drafts, getting notes, rewrites and polishing. I've been learning the craft for around 7 years but dedica...

I know exactly what you mean Baljinder! Thanks for your reply!

Excellent, Baljinder! Good luck on the next phase of your adventure.

Congratulations to the Nickelodeon Writer's Program Finalists!

Congrats to those who made it this far! Any of you from the Stage32 group? Good luck on the interviews.

Let's talk characters…

If Heath Ledger's Joker is one of your favorite villains of all time, too. You have to see this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETgh7I6TEeI

Shawn Speake

One of my favorite lines: "It was a choice between entertainment and a career in air-conditioning and refrigeration." … Funny stuff!

Jonathan Melikidse

Funny interview, Shawn. I've been a Tom Waits fan for a long time and enjoyed the Dark Knight, but for some reason never drew the comparison. Hard to deny the similarity in vocal timbre after watching that interview.

Shawn Speake

And the way Tom walked in and stood there all awkward. I think Heath nailed the mannerisms too!

Rick Gates

Love Tom Waits. Was much quirkier in his younger years, I think. Not a bad actor either, really.

Chanel Ashley

Wow, the compere is Don Lane, he's American, NYC, but a variety show host in Australia, hugely popular - I thought Tom was rather good, considering, - yes, I see what you mean re Heath Ledger, who also is Australian, good stuff, Shawn.

A few words

I know this may sound cliche' but guys, don't give up on your dream/goals, you will make it. I know some days you want to throw in the towel, rip your scripts to shreds, throw your equipment and/or turn in your card but please, don't. Your life is a journey. I'm 22 and have not earned a college degr...

Inspiring post, Shanika. Got me fired up, I'll tell you that. Never stop believing. Don't let anyone tell you "no"...Thanks for sharing!

To pay or not to pay...

Is it better to pay for professional coverage on a first draft or to just pass my script to whatever friends I have who will read it and give me the best input they can. Most of my friends are not in the industry so I don't know how much of their advice I should heed.

Todd Terwilliger

I'd wait to pay until you've finished more drafts. If you can find (or create) a local (screen)writers group, you can trade feedback with folks.

Jonathan Melikidse

Thanks, guys. You really made that clear and easy... j/k. Actually, that kind of sums up my thoughts. Ben, I like the idea of a community of peers reading eachothers work objectively. I will look into...
