We open Act One with ANGEL BEAM (40s), beautiful and pregnant, taking prescription pills and smoking a cigarette in the bathroom of a music studio just before going back inside and finishing laying down the tracks for her new self-titled album.RICH ADDAMS (40), her manager and ex-lover, greets her.On the way to the car, Angel is accosted by reporters harassing her about her decision not to have a man in her child’s life.In a sudden fit of rage, Angel slaps a reporter. The situation escalates when a CRAZED FAN jumps on her car.The car pulls away and Angel realizes she is bleeding. Angel is rushed to the hospital.

We see a flashback of Angel and her father burying Angel's mother, and Angel singing at the funeral … the first time she realized the effect her voice had on others.Angel goes under the knife for an emergency c-section. Dr. Henry CHANG, Angel’s OB-GYN, is on vacation; Marvin MILLER, (60) the hospital’s most celebrated surgeon, performs the procedure.Angel has rented an entire hospital wing in preparation. The baby is delivered.

Upon waking, Angel meets SAMANTHA (28), the lead RN, DARLA (22), a junior nurse, and her son.Darla gives angel pain pills and offers to act as Angel's unofficial therapist.Angel refuses, but is somewhat charmed by the awkward, deferential Darla. Angel meets with Marvin. He is bland, cold, clinical.Against his advice, Angel agrees to do an interview. She sees her father JOE (63) in the room and freaks out, demanding to know what he’s doing here.Angel has to be restrained.

In Act Two, Miller diagnoses Angel with post-partum depression. He tells her she can't leave the hospital.Angel discounts miller's diagnosis. She is determined to figure out why her father is back in NY -- she considers Joe very dangerous. At Darla’s suggestion, Angel tries hypnotherapy.Angel relives having to give up her first child because of her father and her career. She remembers how everyone on the street believed she was her own father’s lover, and how it drove away the boy she really cared about.

No sooner has Angel been convinced she has PPD than she overhears a suspicious conversation between Samantha and Dr. Miller about her son.She eavesdrops in a closet.Once they are gone, she sneaks into the NICU to check on him.She finds someone hovering over her son, apparently messing with his IV.When she tries to confront the person, he/she disappears.

Angel decides to move her son to another hospital.Convinced Miller is part of the conspiracy...Angel begs Darla to help her rescue her son.Knowing it will mean the end of her job (most likely), Darla agrees. Angel tries to escape with the child and almost makes it, but she’s caught. When she wakes, she learns her son has gotten sicker and will die. She watches it happen.

MONTHS PASS.Her career begins again, but there is a gaping hole in her life.Everything turns around for Angel when, by a freak twist of fate, she happens to see Darla walking down the street with a baby stroller. In that moment, she knows the child is her dead son.Angel hires a DETECTIVE, tracks Darla, learns her habits.Angel realizes Joe met Darla in California months ago, before he left.Rich quits.Angel stalks Darla, who finally admits she was working for Joe and that she has Angel’s son. Angel goes to see Joe, but he has had a stroke – Darla was the true enemy. In the final sequence, Darla holds Angel hostage – Angel must warn the authorities where she is being held and save her son, but in so doing, she loses her father. The film ends with Angel visiting Darla in the hospital, showing the quality of forgiveness that escaped her for so many years.
