GENRE: Historical, Western
LOGLINE:

A cynical Pinkerton Detective, on the trail of a murderer in a mountain mining town, finds himself helping survivors of a rockslide stop a killer from getting away with murder.

SYNOPSIS:

Pinkerton Detective John Stopf (Stopper) on the trail of a killer is traveling on horseback through the foothills of Alberta near the town of Frank, when he comes across a vigilante lynch mob. He intervenes before the men have a chance to complete the deed, and takes the man into custody and brings him to the local jail.

Believing the man he’s hunting is here, Stopper settles in and begins to search, until sheriff Evers Berg pays him a visit and asks for his help investigating the murder of a local woman. Stopper initially resists because he’s singularly focused on his own case, until he realizes he’ll get more support and influence by helping.

Stopper investigates the murder while keeping an eye and ear open for the man he’s tracking. He becomes convinced the miner is innocent, but the townspeople turn on him and Stopper is encouraged to leave town since the crime is considered solved. Stopper still has unanswered questions, but his plans to move on are cut short by a rockslide. He is forced to choose between helping the townspeople who hindered his investigation to look for survivors and bodies.

When the body of the local madam Maddie Louis is found in her ransacked home among the debris, it’s clear to everyone, the case is far from over. With questions about the killer’s identity, Stopper doesn’t know if the man he’s looking for is responsible for these deaths. Jan cannot be located despite people believing he was not at work during the disaster. Stopper believes that Jan is injured or dead somewhere, and must find a way into the mine (the last place to be searched) because the entrance has been obliterated. Miners inside are all found alive, except Jan is not among them. Stopper goes further into the mine to look for survivors, but is confronted by Jan who sees a chance to get rid of him. Jan attacks Stopper in one of the tunnels, but is killed during the scuffle.
