GOLEM

GOLEM
By Michael A. Levine

GENRE: Horror
LOGLINE:

When a young Hasidic girl, still grieving over the death of her father, is tormented at her school, she calls forth a supernatural creature from Jewish folklore, the Golem, to defend and avenge her. But when the Golem targets her only friend, she must find a way to defeat the monster she has summoned. A coming- of-age story with a hi-tech twist set in contemporary Brooklyn.

SYNOPSIS:

When her father dies and her mother is emotionally incapacitated. 13 year-old RAYNA, of the deeply conservative and insular Satmar sect, must go to public school in Williamsburg, Brooklyn where she is bullied for her conservative clothes and manner. She is befriended by another outsider, smart, nerdy - and similarly tormented - ZE’EV. Ze’ev tells her of the GOLEM, a menacing character from Jewish folklore made of soil and brought to life by prayer, who defends the weak.

When Ze’ev is nearly killed by the bullies, Rayna, with the help of some dangerously powerful wi-fi from the hipster coffee shop across the street, creates a Golem. One by one, the Golem stalks those who wronged her, until it threatens her one friend in the world: Ze’ev.
