A female border patrol agent decides to work with a human smuggler to support her late brother's family.
SYNOPSIS:
"Over the Line" - A one-hour TV pilot. (Drama, Western) 55pages.
Set on the Arizona/Mexico border, this dramatic story focuses on Ray, a female border patrol officer, who decides to work with a human smuggler to support her late brother's family. The story has a strong thematic backbone/through-line, focusing on the meta and psycho/sociological aspects of the lines and boxes we create.
The story focuses on two main parts:
1. Series focus: Ray investigating her brother's murder and the corruption of her department while, technically, being involved in corruption herself.
AND
2. Episodic focus: Ray's relationship with her Hispanic "partner" - a coyote/human smuggler named Victor - and micro to macro stories. Episodes will focus on individual smuggling stories that have their own arcs. For instance: Season one has Ray beginning her journey into human trafficking through the investigation of a murder/kidnapping. It is her catalyst. This story drives the first season.
Ray's actions and character asks the questions: "Can you do the right thing while still breaking the law." "What is the real reason we create these lines, both literally and metaphorically."
