GENRE: Thriller
LOGLINE:

Sometimes, the only one you can trust is your enemy

SYNOPSIS:

Ex-detective inspector Andre Velon retires to a small, peaceful riverside town in provincial Cambodia to live a Spartan, simple life. Alone, he is cursed with the pain of injuries sustained in a shootout in Marseilles with Corsican gangster Jean De Large.

When the brutally murdered, naked body of a French girl is pulled from the river he soon realises that she is the daughter of De Large. He resists getting involved until a French intelligence officer, Marc Carbonniere, blackmails him into investigating on behalf of Jean De Large - Velon is the only person he trusts.

Velon hires a forensics expert, Heng Sok, who documents Cambodia's killing fields searching for the truth about his vanished family.

Major Piseth, the local police chief, pressured to pin the blame on a foreigner, considers Velon a suspect. When Velon befriends him, he uses the relationship to maintain tabs on Velon. Velon plays along.

The girl's murder is also being investigated by a French forensics team headed by an investigating magistrate, Clair Rey, formerly Jean De Large's defence lawyer.

She resents Velon’s interference; he uses her to his own ends.

Velon identifies a key suspect and attempts to interview him, he finds the man brutally murdered at the mountain-top Temple of the Leper King. Velon is arrested for both murders and imprisoned awaiting trial.

His battle with his bipolar condition, the Black Dog, begins.

With Velon's help, Heng Sok identifies the murderer of his family and sets out to seek revenge but lets the killer live - "It is the greatest revenge I can have".

Velon, through Clair, persuades Piseth that the double killer is still free and that Velon is the next target. Velon is freed to become bait to trap the killer.

The trap fails and Velon confronts the killer in a 1,000 metre high cliff-top standoff with Heng Sok and Clair Rey held hostage. Velon's only option is to sacrifice himself for the hostages.
