SYNOPSIS:

Lost Lake is The Resort meets Sweetheart

Traumatized as a young child, Maura Simpson, hides the fact that she can see spirits. As a carpenter, Maura takes a high-paying job on Lost Lake with longtime friend and boss, Brad Landon. The job is to remodel a cabin on a deserted island. Maura believes this will be her last job with Brad, as she plans on opening her own business and helping single moms.

Elisa Richardson, an assistant to Carter Whitcomb, hires Brad to remodel the cabin. She tells Brad that her 'anonymous client' wishes Brad's team to perform the remodel. Brad and Carter have a history in college of pulling pranks on each other. Carter wants to put a scare into the group by temporarily stranding them on the island for a couple of days.

All goes well the first couple of days. Tension begins to mount, when Maura and Travis, her best friend who is also a carpenter, begin to hear voices and footsteps around the campsite at night. Brad and the others scoff and think that the pair have an active imagination. Maura and Travis decide to explore the island. They stumble upon an overgrown cemetery and find ten headstones with bones strewn on the ground.

Brad is attached by an old Whitcomb employee, Charlie. Charlie was hired to keep trespassers off the island by Cater's grandfather. He never left even though he is no longer getting paid. Charlie recognizes Maura's medium abilities and torments her. Strange activity ramps up, but Maura believes Charlie is behind it all. Maura refuses to believe that the ghosts are real. She is terrified at what she thinks she sees and hears. The leader of the murdered soldiers, Captain Terrell, has the ability to look human or ghoulish. Once he and his men were unjustly killed, Terrell claims the island as theirs. He pledges to kill any descendant of Andrew Whitcomb and anyone on the island.

The team's boat disappears, it leaves the group with very little food and no way off the island. The group becomes desperate. Finally, a boat arrives with supplies. When Carter gets off the boat, Brad and the group are torn between relief and wanting to kill Carter.

Carter admits to his prank and when the group approach the dock area to leave, they discover Carter's boat is now missing. Carter has to convince them that he didn't hide the boat. That night, Carter admits that he hasn't been to the island since his college days because his grandfather told him it was haunted. Carter is quick to point out that on his visits to the island, nothing ever happened.

Terrell's group of ghosts put pressure on the team, taking them out one by one until Maura, Travis, Charlie, and Carter remain. Travis sacrifices himself to save Maura, which is almost her undoing. Maura, Charlie, and Carter use their wits to stay one step ahead of the ghosts.

Elisa, Carter's assistant, arrives on a boat. Carter, Charlie, and Maura run for their lives to reach the boat ahead of the ghosts. Once on the boat, they think they're home free. Terrell's hands appear on the side of the boat, and he lifts himself aboard. The other ghosts hover above the water and surround the boat. Maura is livid at the loss of life and tries to reach a sliver of remaining humanity in Terrell. Terrell grows incensed and prepares to lash out at Maura. Charlie decides to be honorable at the last second and protect Maura. A pair of ghosts hoist him up and take him back to the island.

Maura confronts her nightmare and grabs a flare gun, shooting Terrell. The blast creates a large hole in Terrell's form. His image combusts into the bright explosion. The other ghosts also disintegrate.

Maura turns her anger on Carter, for his ill-conceived joke, and knocks him out. Maura mourns the loss of her friends.

A year later, Maura receives a letter and check from Carter. He wants to give her an opportunity to start her own business. He lets her know that Charlie was rescued and confesses that he is still haunted by Terrell's ghost. Maura keeps the check and tears up Carter's letter. She feels no pity for Carter.

Hi Jan, this is a cool idea! We have an executive looking for horror films that take place on islands, please message me if you're interested in having your script sent out to them.
