I ROBBED THE DALAI LAMA

I ROBBED THE DALAI LAMA
By David C C Erickson

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

When a cocky thief steals a priceless artifact from Buddhist monks, he fights his psycho ex-girlfriend the fence, who would kill for it, and his newly found conscience’s urge to do the right thing by returning it, risking death and reincarnation as a cockroach

SYNOPSIS:

Self-styled master thief, Claude Radke, steals everything from Picassos to gold-plated pickle forks. Only stealing from the rich, his conscience doesn’t bother him.

During one heist he finds a religious artifact among the booty - a bowl that once belonged to a Dalai Lama from years past, sacred to Tibetan Buddhists, and worth over a quarter million to his girlfriend/fence.

Troubled by an unfamiliar guilt over the theft, he begrudgingly returns the sacred bowl, sticking to his “steal only from the rich” philosophy. But when his girlfriend and her hoods violently take it from the Buddhist monks and sell it to the highest bidder, his anger at their actions compels him to steal it from the high-rolling buyer. He’s shot dead in the attempt.

In the last scene, he returns - reincarnated and a little wiser, but still the thief he was as he perpetrates yet another theft.
