Composers Wanted: Audio Storytelling Collective

Hello composers! I have an idea that I want to run past everyone in order to (a) see if it’s feasible and (b) inquire whether people would be interested.

Long story short, I’m a sound designer who recently just got involved in a fictional audio drama. It’s been a lot of fun, and I’m eager to do more....

Favorite soundtracks when screenwriting

Like many screenwriters I like listening to soundtracks, from film or TV, when I'm writing. I'm always eager to expand my playlist so I thought I'd ask you folks what some of your favorites are.

Great soundtracks can sometimes belong to mediocre productions so this could be illuminating for all of...

Anything from or influenced by progressive rock (Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, etc.) or soundtracks to videogames like Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy.

Steven Michael

Silence. If needed, Mozart.

Justin Van Der Mark

I'm literally listening to Promontory from Last of the Mohicans as I type. lol I love the transformers soundtrack, black hawk down, gladiator, inception, and a few others. I mostly pick out the track I like and make a playlist. So there are a lot of movie soundtracks I listen too.

Ghosts and Imaginary Friends - Voice of Wisdom

I'm writing a solo fleece road trip script. Some of the driving will be by motorcycle so I want to add an imaginary friend for travel conflicts and dialogue. Fight Club, Ghost, Castaway (Wilson!), Calvin & Hobbes... any other suggestions I can study?

Hey@Brian Thanks for the info about the band Marillion, where phrase in this thread originated from. Listened to it on U Tube. Deep stuff. Bllew me away.

What was everyone's first job in the business?

Mine was being a PA on a low budget, soft core, gay porn, movie in Van Nuys. (It's a great story.) Anyway, the sound/boom guy left after a few days. To get a paying gig. So I took over his job. I also got to do a lot of grip/gaffer work with the DP. I knew absolutely nothing about anything. On such...

That sounds like a movie! Maybe you should write it? Sounds like a good comedy.

New Orleans On My Mind

Looking for NOLA playwrites to pitch an idea and seek advice.

Eric Sollars

I went to East Jefferson High School way way back in the day. I've written three screenplays set in New Orleans. They take place mostly in the French Quarter. I haven't sold anything. New Orleans was fun.

Eric Sollars

Keep your story Gothic.

Eric Sollars

I lived in New Orleans so long ago I ate at Taco Bell there for the first time. I have eaten at MOTHER'S restaurant. Sounds a lot like Melba's. Worked at a car wash over on Airline Highway one summer.

Chris Cox

I had a nice breakfast and horrible Bloody Mary at Mother's years ago.

Eric Sollars

New Orleans is always a great setting for a screenplay. I still keep in touch with a few high school friends down there. Spent my honeymoon in New Orleans. Mother's deep-fries everything.

Chris Cox
Writer/Procrastinator

I wrote a few features years ago that are gathering dust on some shelf at WGA. I just finished my first spec tv pilot. I'd like to contribute more to Stage 32 and connect more actively with other writers. Hoping this finds you having a great weekend! -Chris

Richard "RB" Botto

Active = More Opportunities. That's my belief and I haven't been proven wrong yet. Glad to see you stepping out, Chris.

Chris Cox

Absolutely! Thanks for the note.

Richard "RB" Botto

Of course, Chris.

Story Telling

Okay, okay I don't know if there is a rule about having two posts in a row.

Back in my "Hey Day!"We did have a rule about playing a song twice in a row on the jukebox, especially if it was "Free Bird," which was like a 15 minute song. I would skip it!

Anyway. here's another Gem in the weeds of Pixar...

TV writers

Do we have a TV writers community here on Stage 32?

Chris Cox

Think you're correct.

Chris Cox

Robert Dillon Read your bio. Looks like we followed similar career paths. I taught middle and high school and served as a high school assistant principal and later a middle school principal.

Chris Cox

I tried writing my way out. Hope you have better luck.

Complain Until It Stops

Okay... as a hyphenate (actor-writer) I respond on both levels to Hollywood's current plague of reboots, remakes and re-imaginings of just about everything.   I KNOW this site alone is stacked with writers who have better (original) fare to offer.   So... I ask that you please join me in utilizing #...

Those ugly ducklings make money. Original ideas are scary to execs. Take a proven formula, add some profanity and secure the rights to the original theme music and it's off to the bank! They are usually really bad, though. #RejectTheReboot #RejectTheRemake

G.R. Barnett

Chris Cox It's sad that original ideas are scary to execs. Geeze, all these old classics had to start as an original idea sometime!

The Treatment: Why? Why Not?

I've decided to dust off a 15 year old script and begin the arduous task of a total rewrite. I usually create a simple outline to give myself a star to steer this lumbering vessel by while I agonize over details. But, now I am considering a 2-5 page treatment.

Do you feel that script treatments help...

Well, so far everyone seems to be of like mind. Thanks for the comments.

Phillip E. Hardy, "The Real Deal"

I work in a variety of ways. I've written scripts without any outlines, using scene by scene treatments, a short synopsis and with detailed outlines. All those ways have worked for me.

Bill Costantini

I like the way it's taught in the 500-level writing class at USC. Students have to create a 20-25 page step outline/treatment, fleshing out the story to its maximum potential through that comprehensiv...

Since tomorrow is my birthday and yesterday an indie film I made was released on Amazon I thought today was the best day to formally introduce myself here.
