Beside, didn't you tell me that every time I come to your school, people start annoying you with questions about me? VANESSSA Well, every one already knows that you are a professional boxer, so they don't really bother me that much. Junior looks at his daughter, a smile on his face. JUNIOR I think you want me to pick you up because it gets you a lot of attention at school. Vanessa looks up to her dad. VANESSSA Daddy, I want you to pick me up because I miss you. Junior looks away, his smile giving place to a sad face. CUT TO INT. HOUSE -- EVENING PAMELA, a young African American with very light skin, opens the door to Junior. She looks like an older Vanessa. A large painting of junior wearing a pair of gloves matching his shorts occupy one side of the wall. The little family is quietly enjoying their dinner. JUNIOR I can't eat any more; this is my second plate. He grabs a glass of wine. Pamela watches him quietly. JUNIOR Oh by the way, I just met with Jerry; he is a nice guy. I think I scared him a little. Pamela glances a Vanessa. PAMELA Are you done baby? VANESSSA Hum hum. PAMELA Go to your room, I have to talk to your father. Vanessa stays quiet for a second. VANESSSA Can I do the dishes? PAMELA Nessa, I'm not going to repeat myself. This is grown up business. VANESSSA But sometimes, you and dad talk for so long, by the time he gets ready to leave, I'm already sleeping. JUNIOR Don't worry my heart, I won't leave without giving you a bear hug. Their watch her walk away, and then Pamela turns to him. PAMELA There is something I need to tell you. JUNIOR What is it this time? The roof needs to be changed? PAMELA No Junior; I am seeing someone, and it's not Jerry. Junior instinctively grabs the bottle of wine. PAMELA Please Junior; I don't want us to start yelling at each other again. His hand still holding the bottle, Junior stares in the blank, nervously biting his lips. PAMELA So; don't you have anything to say about that? JUNIOR What is there to say? You are the one asking for a divorce. So I guess jumping in a relationship was the next expected step. PAMELA I am tired of us living like this! You leave us for weeks, come back with gifts, spend a couple of nights, and then, you are gone again. JUNIOR I am a boxer; I don't have a nine to five job; but you knew that when you married me. PAMELA You used to take me everywhere... JUNIOR And then we had Nessa.... PAMELA That's a damn excuse. You are using our daughter to keep us away from your clan. Junior looks at her, a smile cutting through his lips. JUNIOR Now we are getting somewhere; please tell me the real reason why I'm keeping you away? PAMELA You know it very well.Because of your daddy. JUNIOR Here we go again. PAMELA I cannot be married to a grown man who still lets his dad control him. JUNIOR And I am tired of being caught in the middle of you two fighting for control and domination. Pamela crosses her hands, looking dead at him. PAMELA Oh okay, that's how you see me; as a controlling freak, so it's better that I stay quiet, and just focus of being the best little whore you ever had. Junior jumps up. JUNIOR I'm out of here. He heads towards the door with Pamela behind him. CUT TO EXT. STREET -- CONTINUOUS. From her front door, Pam watches Junior rushing to his car. PAMELA That's it , run back to your daddy. Junior clings his fists and tries to look away. PAMELA Sorry, I didn't send you away with an happy ending. Junior slams his door, and takes off like a missile. Pamela watches him leave her hands still crossed. She looks around and quickly wipes the tears running down her face. CUT TO INT. JUNIOR I can t believe you are using my own lawyer to divorce me. PAMELA Our lawyer! Beside, if I had the means I would have picked another one.Trust me. JUNIOR Does that means that I'm the one paying for your divorce? PAMELA Our divorce! And I hate your sarcasm. JUNIOR I'm not being sarcastic; just amazed. PAMELA You can't wait to run and tell your dad; so you two can have a good laugh. Junior takes a deep breath. JUNIOR You need to stop this now; he is my father and my trainer; but this; right now, is our business. PAMELA You are right! He controls every aspect of your life. My mom and my sister never bother us.They know better. Why can't your dad act the same way? JUNIOR Because we don't have the same mentality. A phone call once a week, Or having to wait for the next holiday to pay each other a visit is just not enough for us. Come on, we both know that even if I took you and nessa and we ran away from the man. You still wouldn't be satisfied. PAMELA I dare you to do it. JUNIOR God forbid I ever grab the phone to see how he is doing, and you will start calling me a daddy's boy again. PAMELA Aren't you ashamed of yourself? A grown ass man like you, not able to live your own life. JUNIOR Listen to me; I cannot be the best boxer, son, father and husband at the same time. For me to succeed in one, the others will have to give in a little. PAMELA Well I refuse to give in anymore; you hear me; I too have the right to be happy. JUNIOR I see that. Only thing is that I wished you had been a little less selfish knowing that this is one of the most important time in my career. PAMELA Oh now I'm the selfish bitch; right? JUNIOR I did not call you a bitch. PAMELA But you surely thought it. The door opens up to a well dressed man. He sits opposite them and glances at them. He is leading the fight. Standing on his corner. JEAN BENOIT SENIOR is watching his son fighting. JEAN Finish him! The other boxer grabs junior, they are both exhausted. Using all his strength, his opponent starts pounding him. JEAN Come on, protect yourself, protect yourself!!!! Junior tries to walk away from the rain of punches, but finds himself cornered. He grabbed the little opportunity you gave him, and you see how easy the situation turned. DEBORAH Okay, the cut is pretty deep; you are going to need some stitches. I will call Dr HAUGAN first thing tomorrow morning. Junior nods, grabs his bag and leaves. Jean looks at Deborah and shakes his head. ` JEAN He has so much potential, but it seems like he doesn't have enough confidence to go for that belt. DEBORAH You are doing everything you can... JEAN I know, but it's like we are missing something. DEBORAH Stop right there; you are not going to stress yourself over this. JEAN But this could be our last chance. DEBORAH I'm sure Junior is aware of it. All you can do, is keep supporting him. The rest depends on him. CUT TO INT. MEDICAL OFFICE -- DAY Junior and his father are sitting next to one another. JEAN What's bothering you son? JUNIOR Nothing! Jean takes a deep breath. JEAN What is your wife trying to do now? JUNIOR I don't know what you are talking about. JEAN Come on junior, every time you see that woman, your attitude changes. JUNIOR She is just being herself; you know, nothing to worry about. JEAN Listen, I promised I won't get in your business, but when that woman tries to sabotage all our hard work, it becomes my business too. JUNIOR Nobody is trying to sabotage anything. I told you, everything is fine. JEAN Junior; I know you... JUNIOR Dad, I don't want to get into this right now, can you respect that? A nurse walks up to them. NURSE Mr. Jean Benoit? Junior gets up, his father grabs his hand. JEAN I think she is looking for me. JUNIOR What? JEAN Deborah made an appointment for me; she wants me to have a complete physical. JUNIOR But you hate coming to the doctor. JEAN That's why she scheduled us together, and she promised never to talk to me if I don't have that physical. They both start laughing. JEAN You see, that, at my age, I'm still getting threats... JUNIOR That's only because she knows how stubborn you are. Another nurse walks towards them. JEAN I think this one is for you. CUT TO INT. CAR -- AFTERNOON Sitting in his car, a few blocks away from Pamela's house; Junior is watching the front door. Moments later, a car parks in front the house. Inside, a man and Vanessa. JUNIOR Letting a little girl sitting in the front seat, that's real smart. She better have her seat belt on. Moments later Pamela pulls over; all three exit the cars, and Vanessa runs to her mother. Pamela talks to the man, and for a moment he looks like he is going back to his car. JUNIOR Probably a friend dropping nessa off. The man grabs a schoolbag and follows them in the house. Junior's face changes. He watches the man closer. A little chubby, not too tall, wearing jeans and a simple shirt. As they reach the front door, the man places his hand against pamela's back; she turns around and smiles at him. JUNIOR I guess it's really over. His phone rings, but he doesn't answer, his eyes trying to peak at any movement inside the house. The phone rings, and rings again.Frustrated junior grabs it. JUNIOR Hello! DEBORAH Junior, your father is at the hospital, he needs you right now. JUNIOR What happened? Deborah stays silent for a minute. JUNIOR Did he get into an accident? DEBORAH It's nothing like that; just come. CUT TO INT. HOSPITAL ROOM -- MOMENTS LATER Jean is laying ot top of a bed, with deborah sitting by his side when Junior walks in. JUNIOR Is everything okay? Junior notices a band aid on top of his dad's right arm. JEAN Close the door son; and have a seat. JUNIOR I see they are still taking some samples from you. He points at the band aid. ~he glances at Deborah who looks away. JUNIOR So! What's going on? DEBORAH Your father has cancer. The doctors gave him less than six months. Junior looks at her dumfounded. He puts both hands on top of his head and starts rubbing his forehead. JUNIOR You know, you always hear about this kind of things on tv, or the radio; sometimes, it's someone you actually know. But when it hits home, it's something you just can't believe is happening to you. JEAN This is for real son, it is happening. I have.. actually we are going to have to face this cruel reality. Junior gets up and heads to the door. He stops in front of it, and turns around. JUNIOR What you guys expect from me now? He looks at Both of them, they remain silent. JUNIOR I mean, I can fight; you put me in a ring, and I know what to do; but this kind of things.... I don't know; I don't know what to say; how to respond to it... I just...i don't know. DEBORAH Junior; we are all blown away by the news, and none of us really know what to do. We just going to have to be stronger, and go through this together. JUNIOR Can I leave now? His father nods, and Junior rushes out.Jean turns to Deborah. DEBORAH He is just like you, too proud to show his feelings. JEAN I feel like I'm abandoning him. DEBORAH Just him? JEAN Let's sit for a second; I need to talk to you. They sit, both looking at the nice view. JUNIOR I like to come here very early; it's so quiet and beautiful. JEAN It is very nice. He turns to his son. JUNIOR Sorry , about the way I reacted. JEAN You were being honest. Some people can't deal with things like that. JUNIOR I hate stress; it just; it's like I can t breathe, or I'm in a tight cage.I become very violent. JEAN So it would be a good thing to stress you out before a fight! JUNIOR Tell me about it, my poor opponent will never box again. They both smile. JEAN There is something else, I need to tell you. Junior looks at his dad. JEAN Now that I'm about to leave this world, I want to make things right. JUNIOR Things right? JEAN I never really told you why I left Haiti? JUNIOR You came here looking for a better future. JEAN Of course; but the real reason was that I was fleeing from my own country. JUNIOR What! Why? JEAN I killed someone there. Junior looks at his father; his mouth opened but no words coming out. JEAN The guy was a trouble maker; he was terrorizing the whole neighborhood. One day, he decided to come after me. JUNIOR Why? Jean looks dead in his son's eyes. JEAN Because he was jealous of me. Anyway, that day I heard screaming outside my house, and I came out to see him beating up my brother with a machete, simply because he was trying to defend me, so I ran back in the house, and grabbed my grandfather's riffle. I came out again, called his name to get his attention, he turned around, the machete full of blood in his hand. He tried to charge at me and then bang...and it was over for him. JUNIOR But that sounds more like self defense. On top of that he was in your property, beating on your brother. JEAN True, the only problem was that he was protected by the government. I don't know if you ever heard of the "Tonton Macoute"? JUNIOR No. JEAN Our ex president's militia.Being a tonton macoute then or having one in the family meant that you were protected by the government. They could do anything they want to innocent people, and get away with it. JUNIOR Dad; this happened a long time ago; you did what you had to do; you are living a different life now. It's part of a past that you have to forget. Jean leans back. JEAN That's the problem son, I have to make things right. I killed a man; it has been my darkest secret for the longest time, and now I want to pay whatever I owe. CUT TO INT. HOUSE -- DAY Pamela is on the phone with Junior, she is standing by the window. PAMELA I'm really sorry to hear that; even though we never saw eye to eye, I'm feeling bad for the man. JUNIOR It completely changed everything, including our priorities. PAMELA What do you mean? JUNIOR He wants to take care of some unfinished business in Haiti. PAMELA Okay.... Junior stays silent for a while. JUNIOR I need you Pam. Pamela gets up., she closes her eyes. PAMELA Listen, I know this is a terrible time for you, but it doesn't mean.. JUNIOR I know what you are about to say; I'm desperate , so I'm turning to you. PAMELA Exactly. JUNIOR It's not what it is; I cannot loose both of you at the same time. Do you understand me? PAMELA You are not losing me.... JUNIOR Of course I am. PAMELA You know what I meant; I will always be there for you. JUNIOR Well I need you by my side. Right now! PAMELA What about AARON? JUNIOR That's his name? PAMELA Yes, what do I tell him? Do I just send him away because my husband suddenly needs me? JUNIOR Do you love him? PAMELA He is good to me, he treats nessa like his own daughter. JUNIOR Do you love him? She paces the place, silently. PAMELA It's a little too early to make such statement, but I'm sure with time that I will grow to love him. Junior stays quiet. JUNIOR You know, you always talk about family, and how we are supposed to stay together... Pamela lets out a deep sight. JUNIOR Well, this is the time to show it; no more talking about it; or criticizing one another. This is it, and I'm reaching out for you. PAMELA That's too easy; when everything was okay, it was all about dad; now that dad is sick, you remember me. JUNIOR Dad led his family the only way he knew; right or wrong, he did his job; this is your turn to show him how a family should be. Pamela stays quiet.. JUNIOR I'm coming over. PAMELA No; please... give me some time to think. JUNIOR I'll be right there. CUT TO INT. HOSPITAL BEDROOM -- CONTINUOUS Deborah is helping Jean to his bed. JEAN Funny; it takes one news for your whole life to fall apart. DEBORAH The doctor recommended more rest. This bed is too hard. JEAN This bed is just fine. He grabs her hand. JEAN You've helped me raise that boy; and you stood by my side for all these years. DEBORAH So marrying me becomes part of your "do things right" list? JEAN I thought about this for a while. I would like to leave you the little that I have. DEBORAH Whoa, you are so romantic; I'm swept off my feet. They both laugh... JEAN I would have gotten on my feet, but, you will probably have to help me get back up. Deborah wraps the covers around him. DEBORAH The way you are, no woman could ever be married to you for a long time; they would have ended up having to kill you. JEAN So why did you stay then? I never gave you children, legally made you my wife, and that was the easy part. She looks away... DEBORAH You did give me a son; Junior. CUT TO EXT. HOUSE -- AFTERNOON Junior is knocking at Pamela's door. She opens it; they stand there gazing at each other. JUNIOR Are you ready? PAMELA No Junior; you are moving too fast...you really need to slow down before you hurt yourself and others. JUNIOR I need my wife and my daughter by my side; why is that moving too fast? Now if you don't want me anymore; that's all you have to say, and I will leave. Pamela looks down. They hear a door slam. AARON What is he doing here? PAMELA It's okay, Aaron! Aaron walks up to junior his whole body shaking. He is much shorter than Junior. AARON You need to leave her alone man... PAMELA We were just talking. AARON I don't care if you are a professional boxer; I'm not scared of you. JUNIOR Listen man, I'm not here to cause trouble.. AARON Then leave my woman alone. JUNIOR She is my wife! AARON Was; she is divorcing your ass; so leave us the heck alone. PAMELA Aaron!!! His hands clenched into two fists, Aaron steps back and gets ready for a fight. AARON I told you man, I'm not scared of you. PAMELA Aaron stop it. Junior steps down, looks him in the eye, and walks away. AARON That's right, walk away. CUT TO EXT. He closes the door; they are now standing in front of each other. PAMELA Why are you doing this? Junior looks down. PAMELA I finally gathered enough strength to break away from you, that's when you decide to come with full force. JUNIOR I need you. PAMELA What do you mean by you need me? JUNIOR I fought on the ring, and my father took care of everything else. Now I'm by myself, and I trust nobody but you to watch my back. PAMELA So You need me to work with you? JUNIOR I want you as my partner.Look over my finances, help me make the right deals.Invest our profits etc... Pamela looks away for a minute.. PAMELA I can do that; but I have some conditions. It's definitely Unnecessary stress for your father. JUNIOR She is my wife; I need her more than ever. DEBORAH You know how these two get. They can't smell each other. JUNIOR Well they are going to have to wear each other's perfume. I need both of them in my life; they have to understand that it's now or never that we have to be a strong family. Deborah stops for a second. DEBORAH So what's next? CUT TO INT. HOSPITAL ROOM -- DAY Junior walks in, followed by Pamela. Jean glances at deborah who looks away. PAMELA And the food is usually horrible. I know you are dying for some real food. JEAN I'm on a strict diet now. PAMELA Anytime you need me to cook you something don't hesitate. JEAN I just told.... Deborah jumps in the middle. DEBORAH Thank you, but he has to be very careful. Junior pulls out an envelop. JUNIOR I have the plane tickets. JEAN Good, did you try the numbers I gave you? JUNIOR These people moved a long time ago dad; only one number worked. Some crazy lady came on the phone talking some crazy language. PAMELA They speak Creole right? JUNIOR That was not Creole; I would have understood a little bit. JEAN So we are leaving next week? JUNIOR Yes, and Pamela is coming. Jean rolls his eyes, and Deborah looks down. JUNIOR Is there a problem? JEAN I wished you had asked me first; that's the problem. JUNIOR We both know what your answer would have been, had I asked you first. JEAN This is my business; you don't need to broadcast it. JUNIOR This is a family business, and she is part of it, weather you want it or not. DEBORAH All right, Junior you need to go for a walk; right now. Junior grabs Pamela's hand and walks away. JEAN I knew this was going to happen. DEBORAH You knew what was going to happen? JEAN That... I soon as she heard I was sick, she found a way to crawl back in. DEBORAH I've got bad news for you; she didn't crawl back in, it's your son who went to get her. Jean starts rubbing his head. JEAN This is not looking good. INT. CAFETERIA -- MOMENTS LATER Junior is sipping on some coffee, gazing at the wall. PAMELA Are you sure about this? JUNIOR Yes I am; maybe I should have warned him, but I know the man.He didn't leave me a lot of choice. Pamela looks away. PAMELA How about the fights? JUNIOR I can't let my father go by himself; he is too weak. PAMELA What did your agent say? JUNIOR You mean ex-agent. PAMELA What!! JUNIOR He promised to drop a couple of lawsuits on me. It got so heated I had to walk away. PAMELA Can't they understand what is happening to you? JUNIOR Come on, I know you did not forget; it's all about the money; and by stepping down, I'm making him loose a lot of it. So he is going to do anything he can to ruin me. Against the wall a large bookcase with hundred of law books. On the other side; pictures of Jean pierre with important people. The man himself is tall, chubby but not fat. His hair is cut short to hide the few white ones sticking out. JEAN PIERRE I know the GUERRIER family very well actually; matter of fact, one of their daughters hired me , I think two years ago, because she was hurt in an auto accident. JEAN I think the grandfather's name was Marius! JEAN PIERRE Exactly. So what really brings you here? What business do you have with the Guerrier? Jean removes his glasses, and starts rubbing his head. JEAN Please bear with me; of course, what I'm about to say should remain confidential. JEAN PIERRE Of course. JEAN Over thirty years ago, I had a problem with one of marius's sons. FRANCOIS if I remember right. JEAN PIERRE What kind of problems? Jeans hesitates; he looks away. JUNIOR Dad; you have to tell him. JEAN I killed the man. The room stays quiet for a long moment. Jean has tears running down his face. JUNIOR I believe it was an act of self defense. The guy was coming after him. JEAN PIERRE I see... JUNIOR What did you call him again dad? Tonton something.. JEAN PIERRE Tonton Macout? JUNIOR That's it; correct me if I'm wrong, but these guys did some serious damage.... Jean wipes his tears... JEAN I wanted to come to make things right; I don't care what it takes, but I have to find peace with myself. JUNIOR My dad has just been diagnosed with cancer. Jean throws a furious look at his son. JEAN PIERRE I'm really sorry to hear that, and I can see why you are willing to face your past. He leans back in his chair. JEAN PIERRE As you are aware of, the earthquake that hit us, damaged a lot of things. I'm not even sure we still have the files on that homicide. I can do some digging, and ask around, but what kind of settlement are you looking for? JUNIOR We obviously would like to avoid any jail time; my dad will not survive it. So the only thing left is some kind of financial agreement. Jean Pierre holds his chin for a second. He writes on a tablet. JEAN PIERRE Hum, I see; well, at this point I cannot guaranty anything. I have to get in contact with the family involved, who is probably going to seek some legal advice, and then hopefully we can come to some type of agreement. JEAN I am determined to pay for my sin. JUNIOR Dad; he knows that. He turns to the lawyer. JUNIOR Once you mention murder, it usually implicates court, and judge, and jury... right? JEAN PIERRE In deed. JUNIOR Even for something this old? JEAN PIERRE Sir; some people got judged for crimes they committed decades ago; look at all these war criminals. JUNIOR But you just said that you might not even have traces of the murder. JEAN PIERRE And after hearing you, I think they are some attenuating circumstances on your father's behalf; but at this point, it 's all in the victim's family's hand. They alone can choose which road they want to pursue; they might agree to a settlement or demand prosecution. The room remains silent again. JUNIOR How long do you think it will take for us to get an answer? JEAN PIERRE I can start right away; granted you hire me as your lawyer. Junior nods. JEAN PIERRE I should be able to get back to you in a couple of days. JUNIOR We do have to go back to the US; for my father's treatments. JEAN Is that going to be a problem? JEAN PIERRE Not at this point. CUT TO INT. TAXI -- LATER Jean is fussing with the driver; after much arguments, the man drives down a small street. Jean points at a house. The taxi pulls over, and Jean gets out. He walks up to a woman sitting in front of the house. Junior watches him talking to her. Suddenly she gets up and runs inside the house; jean waves at Junior. JUNIOR What's going on? JEAN You are about to meet with your uncle. They walk in a small alley, with dirty rain water running under their feet. A well stands in a middle of a yard surrounded by bricks houses. A man, with a leg smaller than the other, only wearing a khaki short runs up to Jean. The two men fall in each other's hand. CUT TO INT. HOUSE. -- MOMENTS LATER Water is served in a couple of plastic cups. The man can't take his eyes of junior. Jean is talking French to him. Jean translate, and the two brother's start laughing. JEAN I was stronger, but he was very fast. He used to get in; do some damage, and run out. JUNIOR Actually, both side of my family have boxers. Jean doesn't reply to the comment. The uncle shows his shorter leg, exposing a large scar running all the way down. Jean shakes his head. JUNIOR What happened? Tears are running down jean's face. JEAN That man did that to him. If I didn't interfere , he would have probably killed my brother. CUT TO INT. JUNIOR'S HOME USA -- DAY Junior is on a lengthy phone call with his agent. Pamela is impatiently standing by his side. He hangs up, a big smile on his face. PAMELA What happened? JUNIOR Wait one second. He goes and grabs the newspaper from his bag. PAMELA What is it? JUNIOR My agent just informed me that SANCHEZ's wife was found dead, stabbed in an hotel. PAMELA SANCHEZ, that's the actual champion. JUNIOR Well now he is the prime suspect. And I didn't want to get my dad all excited, but he was forced to step down. Junior shows her the article he was reading in the plane. PAMELA My goodness this is too good to be true, your most dangerous opponent is out. JUNIOR My agent is kissing my butt right now; he is ready to drop all the lawsuits; he is talking serious money with some big sponsors. PAMELA It's sad how boxers always find a way to get entangled in some kind scandals. JUNIOR That's why you roll over to the next golden boy; that's how the machine works. PAMELA So I guess you are the next golden boy? JUNIOR Let's not talk too fast; when it look too easy like that, like my dad says, you have to expect the worst. PAMELA Can you stop with your negativity for a second? JUNIOR Why? He is right. PAMELA Look at what you are going through yourself; how about, for once your luck turned; what if this is your time? Junior looks at her perplexed. PAMELA We are not off the hook yet; we still don't know what will happen to your dad; so let's enjoy this little door opening. JUNIOR Well we are about to find out how wide that door is opened. I am scheduled to fight in two weeks. CUT TO INT. BOXING ARENA -- NIGHT Junior is fighting a younger boxer; he is clearly struggling. The other man is leading the fight. Sitting next to Pamela, JERRY; junior's agent is biting his lips. JERRY Is your husband trying to give me an heart attack or what? PAMELA Please bear with him; he's going through a lot. JERRY I put my ass out to get him back. We invited some serious names to look at him. These people are going to laugh in our face. PAMELA He is your next champion. I know it. JERRY What are you talking about? He is getting kicked in a ass by a rookie. PAMELA I just need to talk to him. JERRY Do what you have to do; but if he fucks up this time; I'm burying him. Pam waits for the the end of the round and walks up to her husband panting, sitting on his corner. PAMELA I'm out! JUNIOR What? PAMELA This is what you asked me to come back for? To watch you getting beat up by this kid? I've got better things to do Junior. JUNIOR Not now Pam; don't give me that crap now. PAMELA Okay; you want me to stay, then you need to take care of your business; otherwise, you lose this fight; you lose me. The bell rings, and Pamela walks back to her seat, Junior is so furious that he literarily attacks his opponent. Jerry looks at her. JERRY My goodness, whatever you just did is working. PAMELA I'm his wife remember. CUT TO INT. BEDROOM -- NIGHT Pamela is wrapping a piece of cloth around her husband's wrist. PAMELA I told you to win, not to try to break your wrist. JUNIOR I won; didn't I? He stares at her furious. She is looking down. PAMELA I said what I had to say because we couldn't afford to lose this fight. JUNIOR But you know better. You know what's going on in my life. PAMELA All I know is that you need a trainer; you are falling off. Junior looks away. PAMELA Jerry introduced me to a couple of the sponsors, my bottom jaw dropped when I saw the numbers they are willing to put on the table. JUNIOR I bet it did. PAMELA Excuse me; you know you need that money, especially now. He looks down. PAMELA And you know exactly the trainer you need by your side. He takes a deep breath. JUNIOR That's a door I don't think I can reopen. PAMELA Nothing stops you from trying. This man really knows you. JUNIOR I betrayed that man. PAMELA No, your father betrayed him; you were too young to decide for yourself. That's all he needs to know. JUNIOR I don't know about that. PAMELA Promise me that you at least going to try. Junior nods. She leans over and kisses him. JUNIOR I thought you said no kissing? PAMELA I did; and I'm going crazy. I haven't had sex for too long. JUNIOR I can't, I have to prepare for the next fight. PAMELA Junior; I'm your wife; besides, the next fight is almost a month away. JUNIOR Three weeks. PAMELA Okay, Aaron is probably still up; I 'm going to pay him a visit. He grabs her. JUNIOR You really know how to get to me. CUT TO EXT. NY -- DAY They drive through Queens, down Jamaica ave. they enter a housing complex; and park next to one of the houses. A young woman is busy unloading her trunk; she is overweight, in her mid twenties. PAMELA Look, junior, your sister! Junior just nods, Pamela comes out and call out the lady. PAMELA INGRID! INGRID turns around surprised. INGRID Oh my God! CUT TO INT. HOUSE -- MOMENTS LATER HARRIET; junior's mother, and Ingrid look identical, Harriet being a couple of shade lighter. Mother and daughter are sitting next to each other, facing junior and his wife. PAMELA I'm glad to know that you are all doing fine. INGRID It's been a while. PAMELA In deed. A deep silence falls in the room. Junior is looking down. HARRIET I'm happy you are doing fine junior. Junior just nods. INGRID Sorry about your dad. PAMELA He is really going through some tough time. HARRIET I know you resent us... JUNIOR Why should I resent you? HARRIET I haven't always been in your life junior, but I need you to understand that it wasn't always easy. JUNIOR Because of my dad? PAMELA Honey, your father has always been over protective of you. Junior turns to his mother. JUNIOR All right, I give you that; but at one point, I came back to you. I was grown enough to choose to have a relationship with you. HARRIET And I tried to be there for you. JUNIOR All you cared about was how much money I could send you; or which one of your bills I could pay off. Even after I told you that I needed you to be my mother. Harriet looks down. JUNIOR Blame my dad if you want, but I stopped dealing with you because I felt more like a bank than a son. Junior and pamela gets up. Ingrid opens the door to them. EXT. HOUSE -- CONTINUOUS JUNIOR What ever happened to STEVE? Ingrid shakes her head. INGRID He is out there; only once a while we get to see him , whenever he decides to come home. JUNIOR Home? You mean here? INGRID Ma lets him stay in the basement. JUNIOR Can I see? Ingrid hesitates for a few seconds. INGRID Let me get the keys. CUT TO INT. BASEMENT -- MOMENTS LATER The basement is badly lit; boxes and furniture are thrown all over the place. JUNIOR What is this place? INGRID I swear, we've tried to keep it decent; but sometimes, it's like he would completely lose it, and start breaking stuff. Junior walks up to the bathroom. The place is dirty; the inside of the toilet is black. JUNIOR This is no place for anybody to live in. Even if he lost his mind, Steve is still our uncle. Ingrid looks down, as her brother passes by her. CUT TO INT. CAR -- MOMENTS LATER Pamela watches her husband. PAMELA Honey, please don't be so hard on them. JUNIOR Come on; you saw the place. When this man was on top of his game; he took care of everybody; look how he lives now. PAMELA He is not... he is not completely sane. Your sister told me that they tried to get him some help, but he refused. Junior takes a deep breath. He pulls in front of a gymnast. JUNIOR You know, that's where it all started. PAMELA Oh yeah? JUNIOR Hum, hum; I was about twelve, and had just had my butt kicked by some bully at school. PAMELA You never told me that. JUNIOR Unfortunately for me, my cousin saw me. PAMELA Steve? JUNIOR Yes; Steve. He told me that if I didn't fight back; he would kick my ass himself, and I won't be allowed to have dinner. Junior turns to his wife. JUNIOR Imagine a professional boxer telling you that? PAMELA I will be doing a number in my pants.. JUNIOR Exactly; I went back and kicked the crap out of that boy. That's how father and son took me under their arms and taught me everything I know about boxing. Pamela looks at the gymnast. PAMELA Are you ready to talk to him? JUNIOR That's why we came for. CUT TO INT. GYMNAST -- MOMENTS LATER They walk into a very old gymnast. A couple of boxers are training , the larger ring is placed in the middle of the room. Every one stops to watch junior and Pamela walking in. An old man, tall and skinny is busy watching two boxers fighting. OLD MAN Keep your guards on, at all time; it takes one kick for you to kiss that floor. JUNIOR Hello uncle LEROY! The man turns fast, obviously shocked. His face turn from surprised to cold. LEROY Hello. PAMELA Hello uncle leroy, it's been such a long time. LEROY What are you guys doing here? JUNIOR We woke up this morning, looked around, and realized that we got up in the wrong neighborhood. Leroy smiles almost against his will. LEROY Well, it's good to see you. He turns around. PAMELA We need to talk to you, uncle. Leroy turns around, and looks at Junior. JUNIOR Can we talk in your office? CUT TO INT. LEROY'S OFFICE -- MOMENTS LATER The office, just like the rest of the place is dusty and old, bills are laying on top of a wooden desk. A small fan is spinning around. Leroy offers them two seats and grabs the chair in front of them. JUNIOR I'm going to cut to the chase. LEROY I appreciate that. JUNIOR My dad is dying. LEROY Sorry to hear that. JUNIOR Cancer.... Leroy nods, but doesn't reply. Junior looks at Pamela who gives him a supporting smile. JUNIOR How is Steven? PAMELA Junior! Leroy looks at them confused. PAMELA Did you forget to ask him something. LEROY What do you need to ask me? Junior rubs his hands together. JUNIOR This is a very big moment for me... He looks down. JUNIOR I need a trainer. Leroy stays silent for a while. LEROY I don't see Steven very often. His situation has not improved. His mother and I have tried to get him the right help, but he is just the most miserable person every time he feels confined. JUNIOR I understand. LEROY There are some moments when he completely looses it, but even then, he doesn't become violent. JUNIOR Does he come here often. Leroy looks around. LEROY You know, he loves this place. This is home for him.But I always have a better chance to find him at my sister's... I mean your mother's house. Tears are running down junior's face. PAMELA I'm really sorry about your son uncle; but we really need you, this is one of the most important moments in junior's life; but without a trainer, he might loose this opportunity. Leroy shakes his head. LEROY I'm too old for that now; I retired a long time ago my dear; I only come here because there's nothing else for me to do. PAMELA Please uncle, you still have it in you. I felt it as soon as we walked in. LEROY I'm sorry. JUNIOR It's okay uncle; it was great to see you. PAMELA But honey.. JUNIOR Let's go baby. He grabs her hand, and they leave. CUT TO INT. CAR -- CONTINUOUS Pamela has her hands crossed. Junior is keeping both hands on the wheel. PAMELA What was that? JUNIOR What was what? PAMELA You mean to tell me that we came all the way here for nothing? JUNIOR You heard the man. PAMELA Of course I heard him; he had all the right to say no; after what you did to him. JUNIOR I didn't do anything to him. You said it yourself. PAMELA That's what you were supposed to tell him, Instead, you just stood there. JUNIOR I can't force him. PAMELA I know that, but you could have at least tried harder, like you did with me. JUNIOR It's not the same. PAMELA What do you mean by that? Right now you need that man more than anything. Junior looks away, and Pamela falls back in her seat. JUNIOR Don't worry, we'll come up with something. She looks away, not responding. After a while, he takes a sharp left. PAMELA Where are you going? JUNIOR I'm going to say good bye to Steve. CUT TO EXT. STREET -- DAY As Harriet pulls over, she notices a pile of garbage and old furniture by the sidewalk; she runs into her basement to see Junior; Pamela, and Ingrid cleaning the place. HARRIET Oh my God. CUT TO INT. BASEMENT -- EVENING The basement is now cleaned and organized. JUNIOR This is more like it. Now, all he needs is a couple of appliances. INGRID Like what? JUNIOR A new stove maybe? INGRID Do you want him to burn the whole place? JUNIOR I guess not; maybe a microwave then? PAMELA That's better. JUNIOR And a refrigerator... INGRID The one he has might be old, but it works fine; beside all you will find in it is some Chinese food leftover. Junior starts scratching his head. INGRID I tell you one thing he loves to death; a tv. That will actually keep him home. JUNIOR A tv it is then... CUT TO INT. BASEMENT BATHROOM -- MOMENTS LATER Slipping on some gloves, Pamela desperately looks at the bathroom. PAMELA Of course I get the worst part. She turns around to walk out, and comes face to face with a man looking just as shocked to see her. About average height, he is skinny, wearing dirty clothes. MAN Who are you? What are you doing here? PAMELA Hey junior!!!! JUNIOR One second baby; I'm almost done setting the tv up. PAMELA You want to come here now. Junior rushes to her, and a broad smile cuts through his face as he recognizes Steven. JUNIOR My god; you got so skinny. Steven still doesn't seem to recognize him; his eyes wide open, he steps back a little bit. JUNIOR It's me! Junior. Steven looks away, he looks like he is about to run away. Junior just walks up to him, and gives him a big hug. PAMELA Please be careful honey. Tears running down his face, Junior turns to his cousin. JUNIOR I missed you a lot Steven. CUT TO INT. LIVING ROOM. -- NIGHT Pamela is trying to be comfortable on top of the sofa. Junior is laying on the floor next to Steven sitting on top of a chair facing a large screen tv. Boxes of Chinese food still on top of the table behind them. STEVEN I hate the news. Junior looks up to him and smiles. STEVEN How about you? JUNIOR To tell you the truth, I hardly watch the news. STEVEN What do you watch? JUNIOR Well, my daughter pretty much owns the tv, so everything she watches, I watch. I know all the teens channels. I've seen most of the SPONGE BOB episodes; what else she likes; NICK AT NIGHT; JIMMY NEUTRON. STEVEN Man, you watch a lot of cartoon. JUNIOR You have no idea about the things a seven year old girl can make her poor dad do. Hiding under a blanket, Pamela is smiling. CUT TO INT. BASEMENT -- MORNING Junior and Pam are getting ready to leave when someone knocks at the door. Junior opens up to Ingrid. INGRID Someone wants to see you. She moves and leroy steps inside. He looks at the place, a broad smile cutting through his lips. LEROY Where is my son? JUNIOR He's sleeping. PAMELA They watched cartoons all night. Leroy smiles some more. JUNIOR How did you know we were still here, anyway? LEROY Your mother told me. Junior and Pamela glance at each other. LEROY I had a long discussion with her which made me think a lot. He turns to Junior. LEROY I'm going to help you son. Pamela's face lights up. JUNIOR I didn't do this to try to change your mind. I did this for Steven. LEROY I know; trust me, I know. Yet I have one big condition. JUNIOR Okay? LEROY I don't want anything to do with your dad; as soon as he tries to bud in and impose himself, I'm out. Junior looks at Pam who nods. JUNIOR We have a deal. CUT TO INT. GYMNAST -- DAY Junior is fighting one of Leroy's trainees while Pamela and Steven are watching. At one point, Steven starts hitting himself in the head. Scared, Pamela tries to move away from him. LEROY Don't worry; he won't hurt you. PAMELA Do the fights bring him bad memories? Leroy lift his shoulders. LEROY That's very possible. He turns to the boxers. LEROY All right; take a break. The other boxer walks away. JUNIOR What do you think? LEROY No; what do you think? JUNIOR He was good... LEROY I know, but I was talking a bout you. JUNIOR I could be a little faster.. LEROY Your speed is fine. PAMELA He definitely needs to improve his coordination. LEROY You mean with his moves. PAMELA Yes. LEROY Very good point, I'm going to go further and bring up the fact that you have a very powerful weapon that even you have not fully taken advantage of. JUNIOR I'm listening. LEROY You've always used your right hand? JUNIOR As far as I'm concerned. LEROY Yet, you are one of the few boxers I know who can punch just as hard with their left hand. PAMELA That's true. LEROY This is your ticket to the belt. But you have to learn how to use it efficiently. Like your wife said, work on your coordination. Leroy places himself in front of junior. Acting like a boxer. LEROY Once you have your opponent where you want him to be, and you are ready for the kill; I want you to start dancing around him, and then work him like that. Leroy starts punching junior. LEROY Right, right, and then left. See, I purposely hit you on the side with my right to force you to put down your guard, as soon as you did that, a powerful left followed. JUNIOR That's good. LEROY That's what we are going to work on from this point on; I'm going to help you perfect a few of these deadly combinations. CUT TO INT. JUNIOR'S HOME -- DAY Back to his house, junior is meeting with his dad and Deborah. DEBORAH Where is he going to stay at? JUNIOR Pamela's house. JEAN Are u trying to tell me that ~I don't have the right to train you anymore? Junior rubs his head. JUNIOR Dad; the most important thing for me right now, is your health. Getting you back on your feet matters more to me than my own training. That's what I want us to focus on. He glances at deborah and she nods in approval. JEAN In other words, just watch but keep your mouth shut. JUNIOR In other words, you don't need to add more stress to your life, that's why we should be grateful he even accepted to train me. JEAN He is going to try to change every thing I taught you. JUNIOR Not at all, that's not his style, you know that. Jean looks away, furious... junior gets up. JUNIOR Leroy never tries to impose on his boxers, he just help them improve their own style. JEAN So, I'm the jerk who forces his way around right? JUNIOR Did you take your medicine today? JEAN Yes I did! JUNIOR I think you need another one. Deborah starts laughing. DEBORAH Just get out of here!!!! Junior leaves and Jean lashes at her. JEAN I'm glad you guys just think everything is a joke. DEBORAH Everything is okay, you are just working yourself up. JEAN Twenty years of hard work, about to go away; I'm I the only one to see it. DEBORAH So you'd prefer another trainer? Someone who doesn't know your son at all. Jean looks away.. DEBORAH I believe junior made the right choice. CUT TO INT. JUNIOR BASEMENT -- DAY Leroy; Pamela and Junior are watching a boxer on a big screen TV. LEROY This is the man you are about to face next; BORIS KRENKHOV. JUNIOR He's got a big mouth. LEROY But he also has the strength to back it up. He is a very powerful boxer. PAMELA Strong like a bull, and extremely hungry. LEROY His endurance is remarkable; he can take some powerful blows, and then, when his opponent is drained, that's when he finishes the fight, and he always finishes them. JUNIOR How should I fight him? LEROY Jump on him; from the very first round. JUNIOR But, that's going to facilitate his victory. Leroy points at the screen. LEROY Look, look now, you see, how he lets his opponent punch him in the head; I bet you that head is hard like a rock. You have to go for the rib cage. JUNIOR I see; make his breathing painful. LEROY You have to try to tire him up. Get him before he gets you. Junior nods; on the screen, Boris is starting to punish his opponent. The man is so exhausted, he is trying to hold on to the cords while the white bull is finishing him. CUT TO INT. BOXING ARENA -- NIGHT The arena is full; the referee just started the first round. Right from the start, Junior is attacking Boris who is considerably bigger than him. As expected, Boris tries to offer his head, but Junior ignores it and goes for his side. The crowd is all excited, the energy in the palace is at its peak; people are yelling, and betting. The two boxers are delivering on a promising fight. At one point; towards the end of round one, one of junior's rights forces Boris on his right knee. The crowd goes crazy. Quietly sitting, Pamela is absorbing everything. The bell rings, and the two boxers go to their corner. JUNIOR This guy is much stronger than we anticipated. It's going to take a lot of punches to get him down. LEROY But you got him on his knees; so he is not invincible; keep what you are doing; remember the rib cage. The second round starts; to everybody's surprise, Boris is now the attacker. His powerful blows are trying to get through Junior. Dancing and dribbling, Junior avoids as much punches as possible while trying to land a few of his own punches. CUT TO INT. BEDROOM -- CONTINUOUS His hands clinched into fists, his jaws locked, Jean is watching the fight laying on top of his bed. Sitting next to him, Deborah is quietly watching. DEBORAH He is doing good so far.. Jean does not take his eyes off the tv, even for a second. JEAN Boris just threw a curve ball at him. CUT TO INT. BOXING ARENA -- MOMENTS LATER A powerful right from Boris just threw junior on the floor. His head moving slowly, he hears the referee counting. Slowly, and very painfully, he gets back up. Pamela is at the edge of her seat, biting all her nails. Leroy is quietly watching. The crowd is screaming some more. REFEREE Are you okay. JUNIOR Yes. The two boxers are back at each other's throat. Until the bell rings. LEROY We almost lost you. JUNIOR I swear I saw stars. LEROY A few more punches like this and you will end up in the hospital. JUNIOR I don't understand; why is he changing his game? LEROY You probably scared him; there is not that many boxers who got him on his knee on the first round. JUNIOR So what do I do now? LEROY You have to be a step ahead; try to anticipate his moves and keep going for his cage. The bell rings again. The two boxer go at it to the great joy of the public. CUT TO INT. BOXING ARENA -- EVENING Round seven just started. Junior is covered with sweat and blood. As soon as the fight begins, he starts dancing around Boris. Careful, Boris just follows him, his hands protecting his body. Junior starts his combinations. His first left shocks Boris who stumbles a little. More combinations, more powerful lefts; boris is lost; he tries to turn the table; but this gives more opportunity for Junior to land some powerful blows. Junior is now leading the fight. At one point, Boris grabs on to him. He can hear the man breathing heavily. As the referee tries to break them apart, Boris gives him a powerful head butt. Junior is hurt. His eyes is already covered with blood. Leroy is screaming from the top of his lung, the referee is warning Boris. REFEREE Next time, I will disqualify you; understood? Boris nods; he turns to Junior. REFEREE Can you still fight? JUNIOR Yes. The fight is on; Boris is now leading; Junior is desperately wiping his eye. LEROY Watch out. Junior realizes that Boris is trying to corner him in order to finish him completely. With all his strength, he pushes against his adversary. Boris gives him another quick head butt; on the other eye. Junior is completely blinded. Boris is getting ready for the finish. Junior throws a desperate right, boris easily avoids it by bending over. With all his strength, junior grabs the opportunity for a powerful left upper cut. Boris's body slams the floor in front of him, under the crowd's raging roar. CUT TO EXT. STREET -- EVENING Junior is jogging in a deserted street. A small bandage above his eyes shows that his cuts have healed. As he walks back in his house, Pamela is sitting at the dining room table with a stack of paperwork in front of her. PAMELA We are going to have to invest all that money from the sponsors. I'm seriously thinking real estate. JUNIOR Talking about that; you did mention that Aaron was trying to start his own construction business. PAMELA Yes; every big job he gets, he has to subcontract. JUNIOR How much do you think he needs? PAMELA I don't know, two, three hundred thousands why? JUNIOR I want you to give it to him. Pamela turns to her husband; shocked. PAMELA Baby; that's very nice of you; but you don't have to do that. JUNIOR You and I both know that if anybody deserves a little help; that's him. He is a good guy, and I hope this will make up from taking you away from him. PAMELA That's your problem; you are too nice, other guys would not give a damn. JUNIOR I know that he still picks up nessa for us when we are too busy or away. PAMELA That little girl talks too much. Junior smiles and gets ready to leave. PAMELA You know he is going to refuse the money; you know how you men let your pride get in the way. CUT TO INT. GYMNAST -- DAY Junior and leroy are training when Jean walks in. LEROY Right, right, left... right, left right... JEAN Keep your guard up. Everyone stops to look at Jean; he is a lot skinnier, but looks very confident. LEROY Again; right, right, left.... now, right , left... JEAN I told you keep your guard up. Leroy steps back. LEROY We are training here. JEAN And that's my boy I'm talking to. LEROY Okay; I'm out of here. Leroy turns around and starts to walk away. JUNIOR Uncle wait... LEROY I thought we agreed on that. JEAN I come here anytime I want; nobody stopped me before; nobody is going to stop me now. JUNIOR All right; you two stop it now. He looks at the both of them. LEROY You are going to have to choose. JEAN No need for that. JUNIOR Dad is right; no need for that. Leroy looks at him shocked. JUNIOR Because I need the both of you. LEROY They can't be two captains in the same boat. JUNIOR That's true... JEAN I know you better; you almost lost to Boris because you had your guard down too many times. LEROY I guess you didn't see the head butts? JEAN My point exactly, he could have guarded himself against them. LEROY That's bull; Boris is taller, junior would have had to keep his arm above his head to block him. JEAN First head butt was understandable; second one; shame on you... JUNIOR Guys, guys.. please... LEROY You are so good, how come he never won the belt with you? JEAN You need to refresh my memory because I don't remember any champion coming out of your gymnast. JUNIOR Okay dad; you help me better with defense; and uncle, you are making me a better attacker. Can't you two see that I need you both? The two men look down. JUNIOR This is all our time; not just mine; forget the past for once, and let's work together. Can we do that? Both men are looking away. JUNIOR All right uncle; where were we? CUT TO INT. JUNIOR'S HOME -- DAY Aaron just dropped Vanessa at Junior's door. PAMELA Come inside I want to talk to you. AARON You know I can't do that. She sights; and hands him an envelope. AARON What's that? PAMELA A little help; to start your business. AARON From who? PAMELA Who else? From us. AARON Whoa, I'm really touched, but I can't. PAMELA You haven't even looked at it. AARON Listen; tell Junior that I'm not looking for anything from him? PAMELA He knows that. He also knows that you are still picking Nessa for me. AARON Did you tell him that we were always good friends, that I always had high esteem for you, and that even after I asked you out, our relationship did not change much. PAMELA Heck no; he doesn't need to find out that we weren't that serious. Aaron smiles and shakes his head. PAMELA He is grateful for your help, and after all, he did steal me away from you; and I am priceless... AARON He never stole nothing; you were always his. Pamela smiles. PAMELA All right; look at it as if it was a loan. Once your business is up, you can repay us. AARON I can deal with that; by the way; since we are on the subject, there's been a couple of very good deals that have come up. PAMELA Why you didn't tell me? You know I have been very busy lately. AARON I'm telling you now; it's not too late. PAMELA All right; fax me all the information... AARON Okay... She closes the door and he opens the envelop; his eyes opens wide, and he knocks at the door. On the other side; Pamela is smiling. CUT TO INT. JUNIOR Okay. JEAN PIERRE We were able to come up with a financial agreement with the Guerrier family. JUNIOR That's really good news. JEAN PIERRE I believe I told you that one of their family member was involved in an accident; she couldn't work for a long time, and they had also lost their house with the earthquake. So it helped that they were struggling financially. JUNIOR So; why did it take you so long to get back to me? Jean pierre crosses his arms. JEAN PIERRE That leads us to the next news. Your story got around a little bit. I made some calls, and one thing leading to another, our district attorney heard about it. JUNIOR Is there trouble in paradise? JEAN PIERRE Not really; he wants to meet with you. JUNIOR Why? JEAN PIERRE He wants to offer you a deal. JUNIOR What kind of deal are we talking about? They hear noise, and Jean Pierre rushes to the door. JEAN PIERRE Well; he is about to tell you himself. A short and stalky man, surrounded by two bodyguards walks in. He vigorously shakes junior's hand. JEAN PIERRE Junior this is mister Guy Camille; our district attorney. JUNIOR Hello sir. GUY So this is our boy. I was very impressed with your last fight. JUNIOR Thank you. GUY Very well; when I heard about your case, I moved heaven and earth to make sure that your dad avoids jail time. JUNIOR Okay. GUY It wasn't easy at all, normally, he should have at least been prosecuted. JUNIOR I understand. GUY But we know that this would have been a horrible situation for the entire family. JUNIOR I appreciate your help. GUY You are welcome. Well I believe I'm looking at the next world's champion. JUNIOR Well; I wouldn't talk so fast. GUY With Sanchez out, it's almost a given; especially since you beat Boris. I was a little worried about him. JUNIOR He is a very powerful boxer. GUY Hum, hum. You see; Haiti has gone through a lot lately. My people have suffered a lot this past few years. JUNIOR I agree. GUY What they need, is a good news; they need something to rebuilt their moral. They need a champion. Junior sits in his chair; dumfounded. JUNIOR Where are you trying to get at? GUY I want you to fight for us; for Haiti. JUNIOR But I am an American. GUY You are the son of an Haitian immigrant. JUNIOR Don't get me wrong; I never forgot my roots, matter of fact, my dad and I did a lot for the earthquake victims. I just didn't feel the need to mention it. GUY That's very nice of you. JUNIOR But I am a born and raised American. GUY Where is America now; they used to be the hero; the world's leader. Now it's just a question of time before China takes over. Here you will be treated as a king. I will give you everything you want. Junior starts laughing. JUNIOR You want me to drop my American citizenship to become one of yours. GUY I want you to think about what we have done for your father. JUNIOR My father had to run away from here because he dared to stand up to corruption. GUY Your father killed someone; and I would hate to see him spend the rest of his life in a crowed; disease infested jail. I will never allow my dad to die like that. Guy turns around and leaves. Junior stays silent for a long time. JUNIOR I don't like that at all. JEAN PIERRE I am so sorry about that. JUNIOR It's not your fault. Did he really move heaven and earth to help us? Jean Pierre looks down. JUNIOR What can you find me on this guy? Your district attorney. Jean pierre lifts both hands. JEAN PIERRE I'm sorry, I cannot help you with that. No way. JUNIOR You are my lawyer; I trust you. JEAN PIERRE At least you have an American passport, what do I have? Where will I be able to hide when they come for me or my family? Junior gets up. JUNIOR I guest there is a time in our life where we really need to figure out what we really stand for. CUT TO INT. DEBORAH'S CAR -- EVENING Inside the car Parked in front of his house; Junior is concerting with Pamela and Deborah. PAMELA This is so unfair. JUNIOR I know; where is dad? DEBORAH At the hospital, for another session of Chemotherapy. I'm going there as soon as I drop you off. PAMELA Should we tell him? JUNIOR I don't think so. DEBORAH Is there anything our lawyer over there could do? JUNIOR His poor hands are tied. He is scared, anything could happen to him if he makes the wrong move. PAMELA They probably twisted his arms to get you over there. JUNIOR Exactly. Pamela looks at her watch. PAMELA Let's go home and think about it. JUNIOR Go head; I'm just going to pay dad a quick visit. Pamela leaves, and junior turns to Deborah. JUNIOR What do you think about all that? DEBORAH I wished your dad wasn't so sick. This is something you really need to discuss with your family. JUNIOR My family? DEBORAH Of course; your dad; and your mom, I heard you two reconciled. JUNIOR But you are my mother too. You are my family. DEBORAH This is the nicest thing any one has ever told me. JUNIOR I meant it. She wipes the tears running down her face. CUT TO INT. HOSPITAL BEDROOM -- MOMENTS LATER Junior is sitting next to his dad laying on top of his bed. Deborah is standing by the window. JUNIOR Dad; why was this man so jealous of you? Jean lets out a deep sight. JEAN Because I had a promising career; and I was popular. JUNIOR Yes but; he wasn't a boxer himself; it's not like you two were going after the same thing. DEBORAH I think they were.. JEAN That's not true; back home, all it took was a little popularity to earn you some sworn enemies. That's all. DEBORAH What about that girl? What was her name again? JUNIOR A girl? There was a girl? JEAN Does it really matter? We need to think about now; and how we are going to deal with all these issues. JUNIOR Why you never told me about this girl? JEAN Because she doesn't matter. See, I can't even tell you her name, because I forgot it myself. DEBORAH Her and your dad were supposed to get married. JUNIOR What? Junior looks at his dad in complete shock. JUNIOR What happened? JEAN You really want to know? JUNIOR Yes; of course! JEAN After that tragic accident; I ran to her house, and asked her to run away with me; and she flatly refused. DEBORAH Because she was probably terrified. JEAN Whatever; I had my hands full of blood because of her. JUNIOR Dad; it wasn't her fault! JEAN Well; she sure went on and lived a nice life, while I had to live on the run. DEBORAH That's why you don't trust women. Jean glances at her, but doesn't reply. JUNIOR Dad; not all women are the same. JEAN That's what you think; wait until you find yourself in real trouble. Then they will show you their real face. JUNIOR But that can easily go both ways.. DEBORAH Exactly! JEAN I got burned too many times, by women who just wanted to use me. JUNIOR I don't recall Deborah ever trying to use you; my wife too plays a fair game. JEAN I want you to know that I have nothing against your wife; it's just that... JUNIOR You decided to put all of them in the same basket as the ones who hurt you. JEAN Believe what you want, but remember what I said; when the real troubles come; that's when they run away. CUT TO INT. DEBORAH'S CAR -- LATER Deborah is giving Junior a ride back. DEBORAH I'm glad you did everything to save your marriage. Junior nods. DEBORAH You always stood for what you thought was right even though it was very difficult at time. Don't change now. JUNIOR I know, but this time, it s much more complicated. CUT TO INT. JUNIOR'S HOME -- MOMENTS LATER Junior standing by the kitchen is looking at a couple of papers. JUNIOR Whoa, thank you; this is good news; and I really needed it. PAMELA Are you upset? JUNIOR No!!! Why should I be? PAMELA Because my ex is the one who gave me these tips? Junior smiles. JUNIOR I'm actually glad. All I wanted was to help the guy, and he just made us richer. He looks at her JUNIOR Of course this wouldn't have happened without your real estate skills. Pamela smiles; she looks around. PAMELA This is where it all started. With this house. JUNIOR I know. PAMELA What was you thinking when I was showing it to you? JUNIOR Oh; I was already picturing us butt naked all over the floor. PAMELA You are so bad; and poor me; innocently doing my job, trying to sell you a house. JUNIOR Get out of here; you knew I was checking you out; and you were not so innocent. You made sure you always walked in front of me, shaking that sexy behind. PAMELA Oh lord; my virgin ears can't take it! JUNIOR But then, you started to mention how nice it was to have the laundry room upstairs next to the bedrooms; and you said something else about the kitchen.. PAMELA That it was warm and inviting, and big enough for a large family. JUNIOR That's when I realized that I wanted my own family. With you in it. PAMELA Whoa; JUNIOR That same night, I went on my knees; thanked God for all the blessings he gave me; and begged him to let me have you. PAMELA You did not do that! JUNIOR I went on my knees; I swear. PAMELA You just want some; but you are not getting any. JUNIOR I was so happy I had found a real woman; someone not just beautiful on the outside, but who also knew her way in her house. Pamela hugs her husband with all her strength. She then sighs. PAMELA You are going to have to loose your next fight. JUNIOR What? PAMELA That's the only way they are going to leave you alone. Junior closes his eyes. JUNIOR You don't understand; this could be my last chance; and I don't think my dad will live until the next championship. PAMELA I know, and I thought about all that, including the fact that your dad might spend the rest of his life in jail. But if you give into their bluff; they are going to own you. Junior takes a deep breath. PAMELA We just made a lot of money, we have more than enough to hire the best lawyers and fight for your dad. JUNIOR I don't want to drag all of us into this. PAMELA I know, but we don't have a choice. He looks in her eyes JUNIOR You are not going to chicken out on me; are you? PAMELA That's a very stupid question Junior; where am I going to go? You and Nessa are all I have. He hugs her again. JUNIOR We still have one more fight before the last one.Let's see how things play. CUT TO INT. JUNIOR BASEMENT -- DAY Junior ; Pam, and leroy, are watching a young black man; fighting on the screen. LEROY ROGER WASHINGTON. A very gifted athlete. Believes he is the next ROY JONES. JUNIOR His name is actually IRWIN ROGER WASHINGTON. But he prefers Roger, like you said, because it sounds closer to Roy. PAMELA How do we fight him? Leroy turns to Junior. LEROY We came up with our little plan. Junior just smiles. The bell rings and he runs upstairs. Junior opens the door to a group of men; some of them are carrying microphones. Leroy and Pam are right behind. LEROY Who are these people? JUNIOR Members of the Haitian community. Leroy looks at him, but stays silent. Junior takes a quick glance at him, and starts attacking Roger. At first Roger tries to stay on top, but his exhausted body fails to responds as fast as he wishes. Junior is now, the one dancing, to the great joy of the public. Roger is now trying to save some time by holding on to junior. Sitting next to Pam; Jerry starts to get excited. JERRY It's about time he starts to fight. PAMELA It's all part of a plan. JERRY By the way; what is this whole thing about him being an Haitian? It's all over the Haitian radio. PAMELA It's a very long story. How bad can this damage his career? JERRY Him switching nationality? I'll have to look into it, but my question would be why? PAMELA I'd rather him explaining to you, how soon can you look into it? JERRY As soon as possible; I don't care what nationality he wishes to embrace, as long as it doesn't mess up our contract, it really doesn't matter to me. PAMELA I understand. All of a sudden, the crowd starts to yell. Junior has just knocked Roger to the floor CUT TO INT. JUNIOR'S HOME DAY. Junior sadly puts his phone back. Standing next to him, leroy is watching him, silently. JUNIOR That was my lawyer in Haiti; I've been trying to reach him in vain for the past weeks. LEROY He is too scared. LEROY Your last opponent; JOSE DOMINGEZ is a ball of fire. He is the kind who will not hesitate to bite both your ears out if that could guarantee him victory. JUNIOR He is wild. LEROY No, he is crazy. But you switching your fighting style the past two fights is throwing a lot of confusion; and that's good. JEAN PIERRE You should be receiving a large envelop. it's content should definitely keep that district attorney away for good. Pamela throws him a surprised look. PAMELA Why are you doing that? JEAN PIERRE Your husband did help our people a lot; without knowing it, he gained the esteem of a couple of powerful people. I will appreciate it if he claimed that it is one of them who sent him that envelop. Make copies of its content and mail it to me right away. PAMELA But why did you decide to help? JEAN PIERRE Like your husband said; there is a time when we have to stand for what's right. Good luck. He walks away, and Pamela runs towards her husband already surrounded by journalists. Junior grabs the microphone. JUNIOR Almost three decades ago, my father; who is from Haiti, had to run away from his country, because he dared to stand up against injustice. This country allowed him to build a new life, and today. I stand in front of you; and from the bottom of my heart, proudly proclaim my loyalty to my country; the united states of America. GUY After all nothing. I made a few promises; and now that little piece of crap is going to get me in some serious trouble. JEAN PIERRE I'm afraid it's too late for that. GUY What! People are going to be very upset when they found out that some of the relief money donated for them went to your own private account. Guy doesn't reply; his head down, he nervously bites his nails. GUY What does he want? JEAN PIERRE Leave him alone, and he will leave you alone. GUY Can you guarantee me that this will never leak? JEAN PIERRE My client swears on his dad's life. GUY Let's close the case against them for good. Jean Pierre smiles broadly. VANESSSA I'm very strong, watch grandpa. Jean holds his hand up, and Vanessa punches it. JEAN Oh my goodness; you almost ripped my hand off.
