When a flamboyant travel writer and a staid meteorologist headed in opposite driving directions hole up together in a blizzard before Christmas, they fall for each other despite their differences and commitments that threaten their relationship to its core.
SYNOPSIS:
Chicago based travel magazine writer Tilly, adventurous and glamorous, is headed to L.A. with assistant Susan on assignment and to visit her family for Christmas. She dreads her family pushing marriage on her after her boyfriend only wanted to use her for publicity. However, she longs to see her niece, Sophie, who thinks Aunt Tilly can get her a white Christmas. Ethan, a staid L.A. meteorologist, is headed east to propose to his sensible girlfriend in Nebraska. Orphaned as a teen, all he ever wanted was marriage and a family. Meanwhile Tilly’s family is arranging a date for Tilly with Ethan’s best friend Paul, the brother he never had, which Tilly vehemently opposes and which Ethan fears will hurt Paul the way he was hurt by a glamorous woman who used him to get a TV weathercaster job.
As the two travel in opposite directions, they get caught in a Colorado blizzard and hole up together in a chalet near a winter wonderland town. After Tilly saves his life, Ethan comes to realize Tilly is a wonderful, caring person, but they suppress their mutual attraction because of Ethan’s commitment to another. However, Ethan does hope Tilly and Paul hit it off so all can be happy. Then when Ethan’s girlfriend dumps him for an old beau he has to continue suppressing his growing love for Tilly because Paul hopes she will date him and be his girlfriend. Making for comedic scenes and dialogue, it is as if Ethan were on a medieval rack torn between his love for Tilly and his commitment to Paul, fearing that if he were frank with them, he would lose one or both. Then when Paul belatedly finds out that Ethan’s girl dumped him, he thinks Ethan is stealing Tilly away from him before he can even meet her, angrily accusing Ethan, imperiling their friendship. Tilly, falling hard for Ethan, thinks he only needs time to heal after being dumped. She doesn’t know Ethan is in on her family setting her up with Paul with her until she finds out the hard way. In anger and pain says she has been stabbed in the heart again, thinking Ethan was just playing her for his friend.
Tilly’s family and Paul join Tilly in Colorado, but Ethan leaves, having made a big mess, losing everything that is important to him. Paul is shy with Tilly, but comfortable with Susan and falls for Susan instead of Tilly. When Ethan returns and gets on his knee to beg forgiveness, Tilly says she thought he was going to ask her something else. She forgives him and they come together in love. And Sophie gets her white Christmas.
