SYNOPSIS:
Edward Mullen, the teenage son of a notoriously violent
bookie, is forced to fend for himself when his father is murdered and his
mother abandons him. Edward travels from town to town in the
Depression-era East Coast looking for work and a place to call home.
Along the way he has run-ins with railroad bums, vicious pig farmers, and
an Italian family on the verge of personal and financial ruin.
Ultimately Edward's trial by fire leads him to a personal revelation in
the stirring and enigmatic conclusion.
