Jane is told the date she first meets her soul mate by a psychic. One problem though - the date Jane met them was 27 years ago, when she was eight. This is a comedy with heart that involves best friends solving a mystic puzzle and learning that going backwards is sometimes the best way to move forward.
SYNOPSIS:
As a furniture maker, Jane Wolfe was the best in the business but she's retrained in her 30s to be an occupational therapist. Jane now uses her creative talents to make wooden puzzles to help her patients with brain injuries to rebuild their motor skills.
But to establish her new business, Jane's been leading a solitary life. So her best friend, Leigh arrives with a plan to break the routine and for the two of them to head out for some random fun.
So, at a session with a psychic, Leigh asks when Jane will meet her soul mate. They get given a date but solving this puzzle will be a challenge. That’s because, according to the psychic, Jane met her true love when she was eight.
For Leigh, the obvious next step is to do a road trip back to the small town of Jane's childhood to figure out who Jane met on the magical day.
Jane is reluctant as this means making contact with her mother, Maureen as the two of them have not spoken in ages. Leigh is determined though, urging Jane to take time off to solve the biggest puzzle of her life and, later that day, they arrive in Jane's home town.
Maureen is overjoyed to see them but there is tension from the get go. A situation not helped when Jane is drowned with newspaper clippings for local jobs by Maureen.
Jane hides away and, using her old diary, she slowly builds a list of people she saw on the day. But Jane dreads tracking down the man versions of kids she hasn't seen since grade school. Thank goodness for social media. As Leigh says - it's not stalking if fate wants you to solve a mystic puzzle.
List in hand, Jane wants to keep a low profile by observing guys from a distance. But it's hard to hide in a small town and so the conversations begin. A broad spectrum of male attitudes are encountered and, while none of the guys spark Jane's interest, she does get to see what her life could have been like if she chose to stay rather than move to the city.
With a fresh perspective, Jane's happy to meet the guys on her list, with Leigh providing a running commentary and plenty of unsought advice. But with the last name crossed off, there's no sign of the supposed soulmate.
It's only when Jane feels inspired to reconnect with Maureen that her Mom mentions someone who Jane and Leigh have overlooked. There is one more name to check and the adventure continues. This time with all three of them.
And by solving the puzzle, Jane also reminds herself of what she truly loves about her life and the people in it.
