GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE:

Caught in a shallow cycle of dating “the pretty boys” she couldn’t in her past, a former “ugly ducking”, now successful fashion photographer gets helps via a popular self-help app, ultimately finding the faith and love she had trouble “seeing” before.

SYNOPSIS:

Up and coming “it” photographer ALEXANDRA “ALEX” MURPHY is quickly becoming one of the most sought after fashion photographers in Chicago. With success has come the ability to now date the types that passed her by when she was an awkward, unattractive adolescent. Her most recent infatuation ends abruptly when he chooses his career over her and dumps her in an embarrassing way forcing her to reevaluate her dating process.

MARCUS ROBERTS, a successful ophthalmologist who is also trying to figure things out has recently moved his life and practice to Chicago because the matriarch of his life, “Granny” dies within days of finding his “perfect match” fiance, in his bed with another man. Marcus attempts to make a fresh start in a city where the only person he knows is a college friend CHRIS MILLER who happens to be engaged to Alex’s best friend MORGAN PAINE.

After her embarrassing public break up, unfortunately, witnessed by then stranger, Marcus, Alex feels more clueless than ever about how to find love. Morgan goes against Alex’s usual “vintage sensibilities” with the birthday gift of a new tablet loaded apps, one being a new one developed by a popular self-help guru designed to help answers to life’s questions. The app points to a divine encounter of her choosing that will be a sign to Alex has found the one, “He will bring me flowers”, she declares. The gift is given at a surprise birthday party for Alex where the surprises keep coming when Marcus is in attendance thereby cementing some sort of relationship as Marcus has committed to perform the wedding ceremony for Morgan and Chris where Alex is the Maid of Honor.

With Marcus in town Morgan, self-proclaimed “master of all things sneaky”, attempts to help Alex “see more clearly” covertly arranging an appointment for her to visit his office for an eye exam and laser surgery consultation. Needless to say, this doesn’t go over well with Alex as she and Marcus always seem to get off on the wrong foot.

Morgan sends a peace offering of flowers to Alex’s studio. Enter DEON WASHINGTON, a young, gorgeous flower delivery guy. When he shows up flowers in hand, Alex immediately falls into her same old pattern. This time Alex is convinced this was the sign she was looking for no matter what and continues to squint her eyes to try and make Deon the picture of perfection she has been searching for.

Meanwhile, the city seems to just keep getting smaller as fate keeps arranging chance meeting with Marcus. Without any intention, there is undeniable chemistry that exists between the two no matter how much they try to avoid it due to each not fitting the usual MO of past patterns.

In time, Alex reluctantly agrees to the laser surgery after which Marcus goes out on a limb breaking his usual mold to give it a shot with Alex. Still caught in a cloud of confusion over Deon’s looks and the sign she “thought” was confirming of their future she fights feelings for Marcus and does her best to stick it out with the pretty boy. The only problem is, what she refuses to see is that Deon never actually gave her flowers while Marcus, on the other hand, attempted twice before actually landing them unbeknownst to her. Will Marcus help Alex “pull focus” and see all things as they should be in more ways that one? Well, come one, it wouldn’t be a classic rom-com if he didn’t. Alex “pulls focus” only to realize it’s been Marcus all along, apprehends a scooter and chases after love. For both our heroes, love didn’t come as they expected and yet it was just what they needed.
