SYNOPSIS:

Logline: In her most desperate hour, a woman prays for God to tell her what to do, but what will she do when He actually answers? The Power of Wings: A Journey of Faith, Forgiveness, and Divine Redemption The Power of Wings is the true story of Connie Rankin, a woman who rebuilt her life and rediscovered her purpose through divine guidance, forgiveness, and relentless faith. At the heart of Connie’s journey is a moment of crisis—the kind that, if you let it, can tear everything apart. But for Connie, it became the catalyst for her transformation. As the recession threatens to undo her thriving career, she embarks on an extraordinary journey that leads to an unlikely encounter with Oprah Winfrey. This miraculous meeting gives her the courage to write God Gave Us Wings, a book that becomes her declaration of faith and purpose—and a message that will change not just her life but the lives of countless others. The film opens with Connie, now in her 50s, sitting in the quiet solitude of a backstage dressing room moments before a live TV appearance. Nerves try to take hold, but as she gazes into the mirror, she’s reminded of the woman she’s become—a woman shaped by faith, resilience, and a deep sense of purpose. Brittani, a young assistant director, walks into the room, looks at Connie in awe, and whispers, “You’re the woman who talks to God.” Connie smiles and replies, “Actually, He talks to me.” As the show begins, Connie takes us on a journey back through the defining moments of her life—the hardships of a painful childhood growing up in Georgia and Florida, the trauma of abandonment and homelessness, and her rise against all odds to become one of Houston’s most influential entrepreneurs in a male-dominated world. But success, as Connie comes to learn, can be a double-edged sword. Amid the accomplishments, she finds herself alone, disconnected from her loved ones, and yearning for something more. The“more” soon reveals itself during a moment of profound despair, as she fears losing her covenant business due to the recession. The tipping point is missing her grandson’s first home run. The realization strikes: her quest for success has cost her the people and moments that truly matter. As she stands alone on a dark, empty ballfield, Connie screams to God for help, pleading, “Please, help me… Please bring back my joy.” And in that very moment, she receives an answer—a divine calling to write a book that includes Oprah Winfrey’s story. Connie’s first thought…I got a better chance of meeting the president. " Her family and friends are becoming concerned that she’s having a nervous breakdown until… she miraculously meets Oprah Winfrey. Now, she must write "God Gave Us Wings." She travels nationwide to interview women who have triumphed over unimaginable struggles by choosing faith over fear—their stories of resilience begin fueling Connie’s own healing. As she spends less time on her business and more on the book, everyone questions her—her friends, her family, and even herself—but Connie follows this divine directive with unwavering certainty. Just as the finish line comes into view, tragedy strikes. Connie suffers a life-threatening brain aneurysm, throwing everything into jeopardy. But she fights, as she’s done her entire life, and when the dust settles, Connie’s redemption is complete. In the film’s final moments, Connie stands before a live audience on Great Day Houston, where women from all corners of the world, inspired by her book and her message of faith and forgiveness, come to thank her for her courage in sharing her story. The Power of Wings is a story of healing, grace, divine timing, and the incredible power of love. It reminds us that miracles happen when we surrender to God’s will, forgive ourselves and others, and rediscover the joy that lies within. Ultimately, we’re all given wings—to soar, overcome, and live the purpose we were always meant to fulfill. ###
