Melissa Hays is a Producer and Unit Production Manager whose latest feature project, THE FREEMASON starred Sean Astin and enjoyed a theatrical release in select U.S. cities. Recently Melissa traveled to Brooklyn, New York after being selected for the highly competitive Tribeca Film Institute’s TRIBECA HACKS program. A self-proclaimed über geek, Melissa is just as comfortable on the computer, as she is operating a camera and she has been the cinematographer on numerous commercial sets and is an expert in drafting proposals. As a Social Media and Marketing Producer she was integral in both TEMPLAR NATION and FREEMASON’S social media and marketing strategies; including development, launch and tribe building. Others have coined her the marketing and “Media Maven”.
Portland, Oregon is her home, and where she began her media career in television, earning certifications in both Field & Studio TV Production at Portland Community Media; producing ACUPUNCTURE: WHAT’S THE POINT, as well as several documentary shorts and PSA’s. She holds a Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Anthropology and credits her love of storytelling and ethnology as the reason she is drawn to media.
In 2014, Melissa received her MPH, a Master’s Degree in Public Health, and hopes to eventually integrate her film making experience with her passion for providing marginalized populations a voice. She was the Operations Manager for Joseph James Films and has operated her multimedia and digital technology consulting firm, Digital Ascents since 1999. Melissa recently was tapped to oversee operations for the Mirmont Creative Portland satellite office.
