BAT BOY
By Brent Beebe

GENRE: Horror
LOGLINE:

A emotionally scarred teen struggles against the darkness inside him after discovering he has the power to control bats.

SYNOPSIS:

Genesis

Horror that disturbs lasts longer than a dozen jump scares. But in order to disturb, it has to be relatable. So what’s one thing that’s relatable with the potential to be horrific? Being a teenager. And being one who’s a social outcast makes it even worse.

Now take it further: add the loss of a parent, the constant reminder of that loss, and the breakdown of the other parent. You’re a raw wound, looking for some power. And for Lester Bartholomew, our protagonist, that power comes from the ability to control bats. How would you use that power if you were him?

Precedents

Bat Boy is a horror film that combines Carrie with 13 Reasons Why.

Pitch

Lester Bartholomew exists on the edge of despair: he’s bullied at school, dealing with the recent death of his mother, and living with his emotionally shattered father.

He’s granted a reprieve from this when he discovers he has the power to control bats. While he comes to terms with his newfound power, he finds companionship with female schoolmate Carrie Toska, who inspires him to embrace his powers.

However, reality comes crashing back as his bullies intensify their attacks. This brings Lester to strike back using his growing powers. This leads to a spiraling horror as Lester's abilities threaten to engulf the entire town.
