When a couple heads to a resort for their destination wedding, they're faced with the fractures in their relationship - and a centuries-old vampire kingdom looking for a new queen.
SYNOPSIS:
The big day is approaching for Grace and Theo. Grace is consumed by a big pitch to her superiors at a publishing house for what she knows will launch the next young adult franchise. Theo can’t wait to talk about his latest course and hobby, another flip-flop in his quest for meaning and purpose. But their relationship is strong enough to weather these storms - but there’s a bigger storm brewing at their destination.
They arrive at The Pacific Mirror, a luxurious resort on a secluded island, along with family and friends. You know, the kind that you love but drive you insane before long. Grace slips away to keep working on her pitch; Theo feels increasingly secondary to Grace’s career. They’re welcomed by overly friendly staff who do everything to help the happy couple have the perfect ceremony. But little do Grace and Theo know that the staff actually are vampires, and the resort is a centuries-old vampire kingdom. The ceremony in question isn’t a wedding, but the gowning of a new queen for the colony. And Grace is the queen they want.
As the vampires reveal themselves and turn humans with a brutal bite, Grace and Theo realize all the fractures in their relationship. Are they ready to commit? Are they really meant for each other? That important determine-the-relationship question is put off as they fight for their lives against the king and queen vampires.
After a bloody battle of the century, the empire is defeated, Grace and Theo make it out alive with those who survived, and realize they can’t commit to marriage, but they’re not ready to part ways. They set sail back to the mainland, Grace secures a publishing deal, and they prepare to face the world side by side.
