SYNOPSIS:
Professional Coverage: Received a Consider from Mike Blutstein, Vice President of Film and Television for John Goldwyn Productions via Stage32.com.
Clever Deele, 20s, gorgeous, want to be a recruiter like her V.P of H.R. daddy, Lawrence Deele, 50s. So, when he gets sacked for hiring the wrong person, thereby forfeiting his daughter's company scholarship, he advises his daughter to never hire anyone who isn't qualified for a position. Clever takes the advice even as she scrambles to pay her tuition by becoming a webcam actress/model.
She lands a job as a recruiter at Guidance Placement, a prestigious employment agency known for its strict protocol for helping clients find work. Clever meets Debbie Washington, a computer genius with a photographic memory and a known recruiter's nightmare who refuses to take mandatory refresher courses that all clients must take. Clever has no choice but to reject Debbie's application. Debbie loses it and starts throwing everything from tantrums to papers. Clever calls for backup. As they help Clever cleanup, Debbie slyly scoops up a piece of paper that has Clever's personal info on it, memorizes, and drops it back to the floor before anyone suspects anything. Debbie further unnerves Clever with this: "I hope something bad happens to you. "
Things start to take a weird turn for Clever. First, someone hacks her bank account and purchases $1000 worth of sex toys; second, a video of Clever engaged in webcam fun with another female makes its way to her office and Guidance Headquarters, and finally, she's accused of embezzling $500,000 from Guidance's finance department. She's sent home only to be arrested the next day and taken downtown for questioning. She flirts her way out of being kept overnight.
Clever asks Linda Wilson, late 20s, white-hat hacker (White hat, baby!) and supposed "good friend" for help but Linda bows out saying she doesn't have time having to deal with her mentally unstable sister, who Clever was supposed to help find a job, but never did. Linda isn't as fond of Clever as she makes out to be. Linda goes as far as to try and steal Clever's wannabe boyfriend, Rexter Anderson, a deliciously sweet bartender who has always had a thing for Clever. It's a humiliating backfire for Linda.
Linda offers to take Clever out to dinner, where she slips something into Clever's drink which causes her to become drowsy. Linda kidnaps Clever and takes her to Southport Mental Hospital. Clever wakes up bound and gagged and held at gunpoint by Linda. Across the room, she sees Debbie tied and gagged to a bed. Debbie is Linda's sister.
Linda spills the beans as to why she's kidnapped Clever. After Linda and Debbie's mom passed and Debbie found a job, Linda would get $400,000 out of a $500,000 life insurance policy. Clever unties herself from her restraints, and she and Linda fight it out until Clever grabs Linda's gun and kills her. A year later, she kicks off her own recruiting agency called the Clever Deele Agency with money she borrowed from Debbie, an employee.
