BIRDS OF A FEATHER

BIRDS OF A FEATHER
By Zane Hampton

GENRE: Thriller, Crime
LOGLINE:

The lives of a bad robbery crew, two failed serial killers, two dirty cops, and a young woman who discovers her best friend's boyfriend might be a murderer, intertwine in a tale of redemption and corruption.

SYNOPSIS:

When a robbery goes way too violent a group of four criminals find themselves in a makeshift "safehouse" after killing the owners. They wait in a highly tense situation for the boss to call and tell them where to go. While waiting, the call comes in exposing one of them is a traitor. In a fit the traitor almost escapes but is eventually subdued and then killed. In another part of the city the reason for the young criminal's death is his cop sister, who had used him as a rat.

The sister and her partner are part of a corrupt division of the police which allow for the SKGA (Serial Killer Guild of America) to fill population control quotas. When she finds out her brother is in with a certain crimelord she discovers a possible way out of her division and into some real police work. So she convinces him to rat out a few people here and there, and keeps a tracker on him just in case.

In the midst of this situation, two serial killers become fast friends when realizing neither of them have actually killed anyone yet and can do their first ones together. Both have incredibly bad luck and think this will be the ticket, and maybe even a quirky niche they can fill in the industry to make them SKGA famous. The only problem is they can't seem to kill anyone whether its a miss-step on their part or an act of God like lighting striking the car before it can crush a young woman. This is when they find a young couple to kidnap and kill, and start planning to do so.

Meanwhile a young girl named Jamie believes her best friend is actually dating a serial killer. After a strange incident at a nightclub right before she was hit by a falling mirror, Jamie found the boyfriend to be really suspicious. She recollects incidents where he was acting weirdly, and after some short detective work finds the area of all the killings have his house nearly dead center. She tells her friend who has a hard time believing her but vows to keep her eyes open.

The next day all the characters intersect when the robbers are ordered to bury the dead one in a nearby forest. The cop sister follows the tracker with her partner, certain something has gone seriously wrong. The serial killers kidnap a man and work their way to execute the plan of taking out the couple they've been staking out. And Jamie decides to go on a walk in the woods and clear her head. As you can guess, Jamie runs into the serial killers and her dog runs away, she chases him and the serial killers follow a possible added victim. The robbers are shocked when a dog runs into their grave site followed by two armed men and a terrified girl. A gunfight ensues leaving the robbers dead, one of the serial killers with a bullet in his skull, and the surviving Serial Killer at a loss.

A distant scream sounds off and knowingly the Serial Killer mocks that it might be Jamie's friend. Jamie runs off to her friend's home directly nearby, and the serial killer runs directly into the corrupt cops. Good thing he's an SKGA member and they have to let him go, while Jamie walks in on a horror scene of her slaughtered friend and her friend's actual serial killer boyfriend.

Unsure of how he was caught and how she knew he threatens Jamie who shoots him with a sawed off shotgun from the shootout before. Then she walks outside, half in shock, right into the arms of the police. The final wrap-up is the exposure of the surviving Serial Killer being an SKGA auditor checking the procedures and policy following by Guild Members and Overseers. He is unimpressed, and turns in his report declaring the SKGA in need of new managment.
