Collaboration is also an elevated type of vulnerability. It is a willingness to receive input and when to relinquish control. Me? I'm the helpful insightful brutally honest creative unconventional friend/collegue/assistant/collaborator. I write. I communicate. I'm as good as my Mentor. Presently in need of a comedy co writer. I'm great at assisting a genius who understands that I'm totally fallible. I love creative people. Your'e impossible, demanding, irrational and bewildering. But I have lnown you intimately for years guided by your Instrument, the THEMES of my LIFE. I'm looking forward to seeing posts and Warning forgive my informal often naive and inappropriate comments. Thank you. Stephanie Franklin now where can I begin? I'm not making any money typing into this illuminated rectangle. Truth mixed with worry. x

Expand commentHi Stephanie welcome. You're so right that collaboration has a vulnerability risk because we have to give a piece of our true selves, often to strangers. This is OK because we (as artists) want to give all to the final piece of artwork but its a question of trusting our new allies. I have collaborated on projects both with artists I know and do not know but the Art will always out. Hangers on or those with negative intent drop off like flies when showtime really begins.
Welcome!
I just finished my 2nd short film, Gatewalker. Here is the trailer for those interested. It was a two day shoot and I spent just over $2000 on it. I pay my actors and crew, even if it's not much. I pay my actors and crew, even if it's not much. I also feed them well. I learned so much during this process, especially about editing. Biggest lessons for next time around:
1- Take more time for rehearsal! I might not be paying the actors much, but they should want a great end result and be willing to put in some time to make sure they give me the best they can offer.
2- Surround yourself with more and more people who can help and who you trust. We had more crew on this than my first short and I can see how important it is to have them. I wish we had had more people helping with the creation of props and items for the set.
3- At some point you have to let go of the project and say, this is what it is.
looks great. Nice lead actors.
Cool. Have you thought of pitching the idea for more funds? Eg screenwriting festivals etc.
Pitching the idea sounds wonderful. It's just a matter of knowing who to pitch to to get traction. I can talk till I'm blue in the face and get nowhere unless I'm talking to people who have the funds...

Major screenwriting festivals hold both free and paid pitches.

In my new screenplay, I wanna write the following scene: the main character's explaining in a voice-over how small and unimportant his hometown is, all while a map of the country is being shown on screen, zooming in many times, until the name of the village appears and the main character's like "Yeah, here we are"... what would be the best way to phrase it in a screenplay? Help is very much appreciated, thanks already in advance!
Ditch the V.O. and have a shot of a town sign... Zeeland, North Dakota. Population 78.

Expand commentYou do not necessarily need to use much dialogue to show these thoughts and feelings. The fingers of the character (extreme close up) clicking on the computer keys to show the map of whole world maybe, then the country and then zoom on the small scale town and finally smaller scale to their particular location. The look of despondency on characters face as their eyes recognise their own particular turf, with an expletive such as "Home or Welcome to my world or F..." etc might work. The despondency on their face after recognition on home page computer, can speak a thousand words dialogue. The main thing is, no matter how your director shoots the computer images, it needs to resonate in eyes of beholder.

Hey guys, thank you very much for your help! I really appreciate it. Cheers!
As the voice over is going, highlight landmarks that might mirror other towns and use shots to showcase landmarks as tourist attractions.

Thanks so much for that link!
Grace, No. Thank you! If everybody assisted in facilitating ANY thoughtfulness to have others achieve their vision, what a wonderful world we would have.
All I say is, even for myself..."If only someone would give me an opportunity". I live in hope. x
