Michael Sugrue's Lounge Discussions

I joined Stage 32 less than a year ago and it was the best move I made as a writer. Just being in the mix with so many people who had many of the same goals and passion. That in itself was motivation. I had already written a couple sitcom pilots and decided to write a feature screenplay. Finished my first draft in about 3 weeks, but of course it needed a lot of work. I started getting coverage by Stage 32 readers, always got great feedback, even when it wasn't complimentary, but that's a good thing. I took away something from each and every coverage I had done. Month's passed, did more rewrites, got more coverage done, also did the "first 10 pages" coverage" because if no one loves your first ten pages.....well you know the rest. After I felt my script was strong enough, I studied the producers from Stage 32 who did coverage, to find who I thought would relate to my script. Month's and many rewrites later, after many "passes" and a few "considers" ....I finally got the "Double Recommend"....which led to my script going in front of over 500 industry people from Stage 32, and just heard two prominent producers are interested. And I'm still doing re-writes :)....Sylvester Stallone said he did over 150 drafts on one of his screenplays, and said something like "writing is all about rewriting."....Keep writing!
