When a well-respected patriarch of an Oregon logging family is murdered, his overlooked wife fights off competition and saboteurs while the future of the family business precariously hangs in the balance.
SYNOPSIS:
MT. HOOD, OREGON: In the predawn light of the forest, SEAN MCLEAN [63] runs into a couple of men sabotaging his logging equipment. A scuffle ensues – and a single gunshot from Sean’s rifle fires off. That same early morning, Sean’s wife, HOLLY MCLEAN [58], has her own mission. Holly meets up with the local politician in hopes of bribing him into letting their company win the new logging deal in the county. The politician CLARK MILLER [60] accepts Holly’s 'campaign contribution' but makes no promises. Holly then gets a call from her eldest son who runs operations, LIAM [38], that equipment has been destroyed and – Sean McLean is missing. As Holly rushes to the logging site, she barely misses being hit by a car with the earlier saboteurs, one thug is bleeding from a gunshot wound. These men meet a female FIXER [45], and the Fixer tells them everything will be handled and proceeds to kill two of the three thugs. One escapes. A loose end. With Sean missing, Holly quarrels with her three sons, including MICHAEL [36], a U.S. Forest Ranger, and the youngest, RYAN [34], who is an urban hipster, who arrives unexpectedly. Holly pushes the search for her missing husband, while trying to continue to run the company in his place, but she’s not the police, has limited resources and does not get much respect. Now, McLean Logging is a small independent family run timber company, but they pride themselves on getting jobs done right. The Elcon Timber Corporation, run by CHARLES BARTON [60], would surely like a piece, if not the whole kit and caboodle, of the McLean Logging business. Charles smells blood in the water, and blood there is, because – Sean’s body is found – murdered! Holly and the whole McLean family are in shock. The FBI arrives to take over and lead the investigation, but both Ranger Michael and the nefarious Fixer are doing their own independent, behind-the-scenes surveillance and information gathering. At the wake, tempers flare within the family unit. Each of the McLean boys have different ideas of what to do with the company. But the biggest shocker emerges: the main reason Ryan came back to town was to help his father sell off the business. On top of that mess, Holly also learns that Clark awarded the logging contract to Elcon. It’s a one-two punch to the gut – but Holly ain’t having it. Holly confronts Charles Barton. McLean Logging is not for sale! And when Holly discovers Elcon is poaching McLean workers, Holly takes it upon herself to win their former employees back from Elcon through a logging festival and timber carnival. It seems like things are starting to sway in Holly’s favor, but not for long. The Fixer has orders to sabotage the McLean sawmill. While this goes on, Ranger Michael locates the last thug. He's another man responsible for killing his father. With this scumbags confession, he connects him to the Fixer. Further misfortune: the Fixer and her men are successful – The McLean sawmill blows up, and Liam lands in the hospital in critical condition. It looks like everything is over with the company, but Holly rallies with those she has left and decides to rebuild the sawmill. Thanks to the help of an ex-Elcon employee, Holly and her crew manage to steal equipment from Charles Barton, but not without chase. Four semi-trucks, two from Elcon and two from McLean duke it out to claim the equipment at the Astoria Port. In the interim, Ryan and Michael track down the Fixer, who is leaving town. But the Fixer is a fighter, and she escapes. The final showdown between Charles Barton and Holly takes place at a police barricade outside McLean Logging. However, due to a loophole regarding the rightful ownership by a Japanese businessman, Ryan’s cunning, and mismanagement by Charles Barton, the police can’t do anything about this supposed crime. McLean Logging wins the day. The sawmill is rebuilt with the help of the employees, and though everything may not be fully back to normal – Liam is still in the hospital – Holly and the McLean family have a bright future. And Holly is in charge. She also has one last job to do. Holly meets with Clark Miller and reveals she knows he was the one who sent the Fixer and the others to sabotage their logging equipment. Holly goads Clark into a slight slip-up, and the FBI emerges to arrest Clark for the murder of Sean McLean and the others.
And with that, we can now see the "Forest For The Trees".
